Library News

Welcome back to another wonderful year of reading!

Many students have located their lost or missing library books over the holidays and have returned items to school. It is never too late to return them! If any student has outstanding loans please write a quick note or come and see me as soon as possible. Student overdue lists were given to teachers last week.

Please also have a look at home for any other resources borrowed from classroom libraries including year level readers. All school resources can be placed in the ‘Book Returns’ trolley in the 21st Century Learning Space – thank you.

Book Bags . . .

I encourage all students to have a named library book bag. It’s a lot harder to lose your library books if they are kept in a named library bag. I have a few spare library bags if anyone would like one please come and see me.

BOOK DONATIONS

Thank you to Rachel Ciechowicz and family for your recent book donations to Rowville Primary School. I’m sure they will be well received by our students.

BLUEBACK BY TIM WINTON

I love seeing good Australian literature adapted into Australian films. Perth based Tim Winton took one week to write Blueback back in 1997 and its never been out of print. The story has strong themes of family and belonging as well as showing us how we should live closely in tune with the environment and protect our wildlife. It’s also about a courageous woman, Dora Jackson, who is determined to do what she can to save her home from greedy developers.

The film was shot at Bremer Bay on Western Australia’s South Coast, Longboat Bay and Ningaloo. The film was released in January 2023. It says online that the Producer of the film wanted to inspire his audience to care about the sea and to get active about defending it because “this blue planet is our only home.”

Tim Winton has written children’s books, novels, short stories, non-fiction books and screen plays. He was awarded the Miles Franklin Award four times (an outstanding achievement). He is a patron of the Australian Marine Conservation Society and was named as an Australian Living Treasure.  If anyone would like to read Blueback please come and see me or ‘reserve’ a copy through Oliver V5 our School Library Cataloguing system. It’s a thought provoking enjoyable read.

SCHOLASTIC AUSTRALIA BOOKCLUB

Welcome back to Book Club! This year we have a new format “Book Club News” printed in a newspaper style instead of the Bookclub brochures. Every student in the school should receive a copy. There are eight Scholastic Bookclubs per year (two per term). Every dollar spent entitles the school to earn “Scholastic Reading Rewards” which are then redeemed to obtain books and resources for the school. Book Club Issue 1 was distributed this week and orders are due by Monday 13 February, 2023.

Please direct all Scholastic Bookclub and any book or library related enquires to me during the following hours:

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 8.30 – 3.30pm; Thursday and Friday 1.30 - 3.30pm

or email: www.rowville.ps@education.vic.gov.au
