Waratah News Term 4 2022
What a fantastic year we have had in Waratah.
This Term, as throughout the year, we have continued to plan the program based on independence, autonomy, and social and emotional skills as these are important developmental areas and skills for children to have to ensure a smooth transition to school.
All of the children going to school in 2023 have been going to school transitions on different days and times over the past month which has often changed the dynamics of the group children have been engaging with children they may not usually interact with and therefore having different conversations, playing different games, thus developing their social skills. We have also been having open discussions about going to school, feelings around this, and strategies we could use to help.
We have been continuing with “What’s in the box?” (Show and tell) this term, which builds children’s confidence and helps develop effective communication skills.
Another highlight over the past month has been observing the life cycle of the strawberry plant and this week we were lucky that 2 strawberries were ready for eating on one of our session days.
We cut these up into small pieces so everyone who wanted to could taste them.
The “Building home libraries” program has received positive feedback and we will be continuing with this next year through our School Readiness Funding from the Department of Education.
Thank you to all of the family members who have helped out with washing, working bees, and committee roles - or have joined us in the session at various times throughout the year. It was great that restrictions were lifted halfway through the year allowing us to have people in the kinder again.

Thanks,
