Carlsruhe Annexe /

Main Campus - Year 4

Well, here we are at the end of another year and it’s time to say a sad goodbye to this year’s Carlsruhe students as they move up into the Senior Unit. We have had a fun and busy past few weeks with so much going on.

Year 4 Camp

Last week we travelled to Phillip Island and had a very enjoyable three days participating in camp activities as well as visiting many of the local sites around the island. Students all had the opportunity to challenge themselves on the flying fox, giant swing, ‘The Pinnacle’ rock climbing wall, archery, pedal cars and trampolining. By day we learned about life in the past at Churchill Island, visited the Koala Sanctuary and the Antarctic Journey visitor centre while our nighttime highlights were seeing the penguins come in from sea and watching the sunset from the clifftop while waiting for the shearwater birds to come in to feed their young in their nests after a day out fishing at sea. What stunning and magical experiences for the students and adults alike!

A huge ‘thank you’ to our parent volunteers who took time out from their normal work/family lives to attend camp, without whom we couldn’t run our camp: Naadein Crowe, Jeremy Nash, Justine Russell-Mynster and Nyssa Jewell. Many thanks also to business manager/bus driver extraordinaire, Sue Turner, for driving the minibus and to Bryan for being such a fun and involved bus driver.

Passion Projects

Throughout most of the term, students have been working away solidly on a passion project of their choice. This week we have been treated to the presentation of these projects. We have been impressed with the variety of topics, thought provoking questions and the depth of research students have been able to complete, as well as some creative ways of presenting. Well done to all of you!

Animal Roster

A big thank you to all of the families who have offered to care for our chickens/guinea pigs over the holidays. We greatly appreciate your support of our program and we are sure the students will enjoy their last opportunity to look after the animals before handing them over to the care and responsibility of next year’s grade 4 students.
