Year 11 Camp

Thank you to MBSC Staff Leanne McCraw, Ann Bellingham, Josh Davies and Jo Macklan for such a successful camp.

A group students and teachers set off from MBSC at 5:15 last Wednesday morning ready for an action packed three days. We certainly got that and more!
Wednesday saw the group arrive in Melbourne around 10:30am and set off to find the accommodation, then get orientated in the nearby area of South Yarra, completed a Great Race type activity in the CBD, visited the Eureka Tower Skydeck, dinner at La Porchetta and an evening exploration of the Southbank precinct. Finally falling into our beds about 11:00pm.

Thursday the aim was to visit RMIT, Melbourne Uni and dwell Student Village accommodation. Some of us got held up on the train because of a ‘trespasser on the tracks’ between Southern Cross and Flinders St Stations. Lunch at QVB, then off to The Big Issue. We made our way back to get ready for dinner at the Soda Rock Café. Once again some public transport issues held up a large group of us for some time. After dinner we played Laser Tag at Crown and watched the Flares on Southbank then made our way ‘home’. Oh dear – stuck on the train again!! This time for about 40 minutes – Police, Paramedics, flashing lights, but we still have no idea what happened, just that we were all late home that night!

Friday was the shopping challenge day – market visit, lunch at St Kilda and a little free time before we dragged our weary bodies onto the train and back home. As was becoming familiar, we found ourselves faced with some challenges – a phone dropped down between the slats on the St Kilda Beach boardwalk! Students jumped to and worked as a group to problem solve this one. Seeking permission, finding tools, dismantling the boardwalk (just a small section!), retrieving the phone and rebuilding the boardwalk. What a team effort! Well done to all.

Then, still not done, when arriving at Wangaratta Station we found the bus had a flat battery! Problem solving task 2 for the day. Hence a late night home and we were all glad to collapse in our own beds after a very full three days.

I’d like to thank Leanne McCraw, Joanna Macklan and Josh Davies for their time and efforts on this camp – it was certainly a little above and beyond at times. Thanks to the students who made the camp a great success, we teachers enjoyed your company immensely and it made the time commitment all worthwhile. This group looks like being a really great group of young adults set to take on year 12 studies in 2023.
