Dear Parents and Students,

The past week has seen much activity and some normality returning with our orientation program for 2021 running successfully last week. Our year 10 and 11 students have been able to get a “head start” on their courses for 2021 by familiarising themselves with VCAA study designs, background material and assessment styles. All students will have some tasks to complete over the break in order to better prepare themselves for the 2021 academic year. These tasks are to be finished by day 1 of term 1, which is Friday January 29 2021.

It was also great to see our new year 10 group for 2021 who were finally able to physically visit the Monash University campus.

Year 12 Results

Students completing Year 12 subjects are able to access their results on the 30th of December. We hope all of our year 12 students will achieve results that match or exceed their expectations, especially after such a tumultuous year.

A range of JMSS staff will be on deck at school between 10am and 2pm on the 30th of December if students wish to chat about their results and get some advice on changing preferences for university, or just want to chat about options beyond school. Appointments are available with Kirsten Carter our careers counsellor until January 4th 2021. Full details have been emailed to students, are on Compass and have been included in the latest Covid 19 update.

Olympiad Summer School

Congratulations to 3 of our students Caitlyn Lewis, Lachlan O’Brien and Ravon Chew who have all received invitations to attend Olympiad summer schools in  Earth and Environmental Science and Biology respectively based at ANU in Canberra over January. The summer schools will be run virtually and hopefully these students will go on to represent Australia in these subject areas in 2020.

Finally, I would like to congratulate Erin Hayley and the student team on their efforts in completing a superb school magazine this year. Each year the magazine gets better and better and I would recommend perusing this edition to get a sense of all of the amazing events and achievements that have characterised the 2020 JMSS year.

I would like to wish all members of the JMSS community a safe and relaxing festive period and hopefully you will all get the chance to get together with extended family in this period!

Look forward to seeing you all in 2021
