TRANSITIONS

Term 4 is a critical period, particularly for the children moving from kindergarten into Prep, from Year 6 into Year 7, from Year 11 to Year 12, and those in Year 12 moving into employment or further education and training.

Students in other year levels will also prepare for a change of teachers and new classmates. A key focus of Term 4 will be to make every effort to ensure each of these end-of-year and beginning-of-year transitions occurs as successfully as possible.

At CSPS the Step-Up program for 2021 Foundation students will begin this week with meetings with staff members and small group play sessions onsite. Further details are available via Compass or contact Mrs Elaine Doughty on elained@cranbournesouth.vic.edu.au

Step - Through sessions for Year 1 - 5 are planned for week 7, 8 and 11 of this term. All classes will move up to spend 2 periods in the year level above. These groups are not class groups for 2021 nor are the teachers. These sessions are designed to give the students a 'feel' for the next year. In week 11, all students will spend a morning in their 2021 classes with their class teachers.

Step - On sessions for Year 6 to 7 transition. We are awaiting confirmation about what this will look like for 2021 due to COVID restrictions.

Book Week looked a little different this year but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm. What fantastic Book Characters. Many parents also posted on the Cranbourne South PS Facebook page as well. Check out the photos below.

ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING

A key focus of the classroom learning and teaching program at this time is assessment.

Assessment for improved student learning and deep understanding requires a range of assessment practices to be used with three overarching purposes:

Assessment for learning: occurs when teachers use inferences about student progress to inform their teaching (formative assessment)
Assessment as learning: occurs when students reflect on and monitor their progress to inform their future learning goals (formative assessment)
Assessment of learning: occurs when teachers use evidence of student learning to make judgments on student achievement against goals and standards (summative assessment)

Students will be participating in a variety of assessment tasks whilst at school. These may be computer-generated, written tests or conferences with teachers. If your child mentions that they have been or are going to do a test please discuss assessment as part of the teaching process and that it lets the teacher know what to teach next. Give encouragement such as, 'Doing your best" and "Having a good go" and "Do what you can and challenge yourself to the next piece."

Students will receive semester reports in Week 10 2020. As was the case in Semester 1 school reports may look a little different. Student reporting will focus on what progress has been made and what each student has achieved. These reports will be published via Compass as per usual.

Senior Maths

The Senior students created towers with the largest volume. They had to measure and calculate the volume, estimate which they thought were the largest and smallest, while also ensuring they were free standing.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast club has begun on Thursday and Friday mornings from 8.35 - 8.55 am in the Gallery. This program has been met with excitement and students have enjoyed starting the day with breakfast at school.
