From the Principal

Dear Huntingtower Community,

‘ZEAL. The reflected animation of Life, Truth, and Love.’  Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health p 599:4

This week we welcomed back all students to our beautiful Huntingtower campus. It was wonderful to see the Year 12 students demonstrating the zeal referred to by Mrs Eddy in the above quote. The students welcomed everyone on arrival with signs and messages of appreciation and affection -  it was a wonderful and animated demonstration of the students’ love for the community and gratitude for the staff. Thank you to all the families who joined in the fun and ‘honked’ the horns of your car in support.

Just two days after having all students back, we farewelled our Year 12 students who finished formal classes. They enjoyed signing their uniforms, releasing doves and conducting a very moving final assembly. We wish all the students well as they prepare for the final exams. We are already so proud of you and know you will do your best. We will formally farewell our Year 12 students after the exams when restrictions have eased.

This term, we have celebrated some amazing success from the students. Last Sunday, the Year 9 Debating Team won the DAV Schools Competition Grand Final. We also had success in the Junior British Parliamentary Debating State Tournament for Year 7 and 8. In Chess we once again held our own at State Finals with all three of our teams qualifying for the Nationals at the end of November. We have also enjoyed amazing success in Media with students winning awards at the International Youth Film Festival (State Final) and a record 11 nominations for Bond University Film & Television Awards 2020. Our thanks go to all the staff who provide diverse opportunities for our students and who work hard to inspire and support them. I encourage you to read more about these achievements in this Bulletin.

This week we announced the School Captains, Prefects Council and House Captains for 2021. We congratulate all the successful candidates and look forward to their leadership and support of the school community in 2021. We also acknowledge the tremendous and adaptive leadership of the 2020 Student Leadership Team, ably led by Vishal Ramesh and Angel Phillips.

We are slowly coming out of lockdown and look forward to the easing of further restrictions. We will share our ideas for key end of year activities and events as soon as we have confirmed our plans.

I wish all families a lovely mid-term break and encourage you to support your local community as we see retail and hospitality begin to open.
