Wellbeing

Our students across the school are continuing to work hard on identifying how they feel and recognising how others may feel through their body language. We continue to provide our students the opportunity to express how they are feeling each day through the use of our Zones of Regulation.

Some questions that may support their understanding are as follows:

FOUNDATION

How does it make you feel when you hear people being angry?

When you hear people sounding happy?

When you hear people sounding sad?

What it is like in the classroom, the playground and at home?

YEAR 1/2

Invite your child to share an example of when they were kind and shared something at school recently. Ask them when they did this at home. If they can’t think of one, get them to imagine one to help them think of one that they can do very soon. Check in with how they went with their act of kindness.

YEAR 3/4

Support and fill in the table as a family.

YEAR 5/6

Students have been looking at, how in any normal day, there may be a range of emotions felt, which is known as an Emotional Rollercoaster.

Below is a sample the students have looked at.

Draw a line and map out a day of your choice with the different emotions felt. The higher or lower the spike, the more intense that emotion is.

Eg. Pleased – happy -  joyful - ecstatic

Talking about the various emotions we feel and recognising how others are feeling is an ongoing effort. We encourage our students to continue this journey through the conversations had in the classroom and at home. This will support our students upskilling their ability to communicate their emotions.
