From the Classroom

Foundation

Welcome to Term 2! It was lovely to return to school after the Easter break and have the children settle back into routine quickly. Our 3 days have been full with much learning.

We have had a strong focus on the name and sound of letter Ww.  We have associated the sound with the amazing whale and we have enjoyed reading and viewing books on Epic about them.

Our big book this week has been Mrs Wishy Washy and this has involved lots of whole class shared reading practice.

We have also been learning the pattern of skip counting by 5s and recording our count on whiteboards and paper.  The 'Sing Walrus Counting by 5s' video was very popular to practice with.

Thank you Parents for completing the Reading Log in the blue plastic pocket.  I do enjoy your comments and this strengthens communication about how you are tracking with this very important homework. You will have noticed we have now commenced Sight Work Homework as well.  These will be checked once a week and additional words will be added when these words can be read in a snap. Learning to read these sight words will assist your child’s development in this area.  Please don’t allow these words to take over the importance of reading the take home books.  It will be important to link these words to these books.  We were quite surprised that the word “was” was not in Mrs Wishy Washy at all.  But it was a great book to learn “and” and “the”.

Every Wednesday our class is very lucky to have Fiona Brown volunteer to come and assist with our Literacy block.  Thank you so much Fiona for all your help. We were very fortunate to have Fiona’s daughter Miranda make our classroom batches of playdough.  She made it in her Thermomix … WOW!!!  Thank you Miranda.
