Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome back after what I hope has been a restful and enjoyable break. Amazing weather, was certainly a bonus. As a school community we are looking forward to another term of working and learning together.

Once again our term is action packed, commencing with our Toolamba Cross Country on Monday 3rd May. Children will assemble at school and walk across to the bush. Senior students will be running first. Please encourage your students to participate on this day; we have noticed in the past that some children do not attend school on this day. Students are more than welcome to walk the course if they find the run too challenging. At Toolamba, we always place an emphasis on doing our personal best, not having to be the best. Parents and family members are more than welcome to attend.

MOTHER'S DAY STALL

Next Wednesday 5th May P & F are running their annual Mother's Day Stall. All donations would be greatly appreciated.

SCHOOL PHOTOS

School Photos will be taken on Thursday 6th May. Students are required to wear full school uniform on this day. Shoulder length hair is to be tied back.

MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST

To assist with catering please complete the return slip with your choice of food and the number attending by 9am Wednesday 5th May. NAPLAN

NAPLAN testing begins on 11th May. The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) involves students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 from all states and territories in Australia.

If your child is in one of these years, the program will assess their skills in four areas - Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and Numeracy.

These national test results provide information on how your child is progressing and performing in the key areas of Literacy and Numeracy and helps to support improvements in teaching to benefit your child.

The assessments happen nationwide every year in the second full week of May.

Tuesday 11th             Language Conventions and Writing

Wednesday 12th         Reading

Thursday 13th            Numeracy

NAPLAN tests provide very valuable information, but there are no consequences for individual students for a poor or good performance. At the classroom level, it is one of a number of tools used by teachers to measure student progress. To provide an overview of the format of the tests, a full set of example tests is available.

ANZAC Day

This weekend we pause to pay respect and to honour those who have served our nation.

Students are learning about the meaning of ANZAC Day in a variety of ways this week through art and literature! Our School Captains will be participating in the ANZAC Day service held at the Toolamba Community Centre on Sunday at 10am. Unfortunately, I will miss the service this year as our granddaughter Frankie, is proudly riding in the dawn service at Woorinen.

Have a lovely weekend,

Regards Heather
