World's Greatest Shave
The World’s Greatest Shave for the Leukemia Foundation is a national organisation representing the needs of people living with blood cancer in Australia.
‘Every day another 47 Australians are diagnosed with blood cancer. That’s one Aussie every 31 minutes. Although research is improving survival, sadly an Australian loses their life to blood cancer every two hours.’
By fundraising, not only will families facing blood cancer be provided with the special care they require for every step of their journey, but the money will also fund vital research for blood cancers to help people survive blood cancers.
By shaving, we show our act of solidarity and send a powerful message of hope to those diagnosed with blood cancer.
Each year, more than 20,000 people help conquer blood cancer by getting sponsors to shave, cut or colour their hair during the Leukemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave. Last year being one of the toughest years ever – every dollar makes such a big difference.
Students Making A Difference (SMAD) organised The World’s Greatest Shave event last Friday (30/04/2021), where we shaved and dyed the teacher's hair on the stage in the quad and provided hairspray for a gold coin donation!
SMAD and the faculty team at UHS had an initial goal of raising $1500, and we ended up raising almost 4 times the amount, coming to a whopping amount of $5,752.03!! This wouldn’t be possible without Felicity Adams, who raised $3,767.33 (and donated her hair!), Lisa Shukroon, who raised $880.03, Josh Madden, who raised $495.25, Cyrus Wong who raised $115, who dyed his hair, and lastly, the students, who came to support the teachers and getting colourful hairspray in the quad at lunch!
We couldn’t have been able to achieve this without you so thank you to all who were involved!
