One Girl 'Do It In A Dress' Fundraiser

It’s been a busy and exciting start to Term 2 for our Inter School Sport program at Uni High!

We started the term with the School Athletics Carnival, at a new venue this year (George Knott Reserve) and were blessed with a sunny day in the middle of a week of rain!

The carnival again kicked off with the highly anticipated and popular 100m events. Together with the field events – high jump, long jump and triple jump, there were many enthusiastic students participating in a variety of competitive and novelty events throughout the day.

We finished the day with the Staff v Student Relay – but this year there was a twist! Students had the opportunity to vote for a teacher to participate in the relay, but in a school dress! This initiate was organised by Aarushi (12G4) and Quynh Anh (12J2) as part of the One Girl ‘Do It In A Dress’ fundraiser. It cost $1 per vote, raising over $500 for the day – a great effort to all involved!

The final results for the UHS 2021 athletics carnival were as follows:

Congratulations to Johnston for being crowned the overall winner for the 2021 UHS Athletics Carnival – back to back!

Well done also to the following students who were awarded individual age group champions for their achievements on the day:

A massive congratulations to all students on their efforts throughout the day and a big thank you to all staff that played a role in supporting another successful athletics carnival again this year.

After the Athletics Carnival we were straight into the State Swimming, with 10 students representing the school:

Harry C, Daniel H, Nicholas MR, Daniel P, Luke P, William P, Alec S, Michael S, Liam T & Curtis Z. It was a great effort by all swimmers, with two bronze medal wins for the day!

From swimming, we quickly moved into our Senior and Intermediate Sport days, fielding many teams including across the sports of AFL, Netball, Soccer & Badminton. It’s been great to see such enthusiasm and high participation from our students – all of whom eager to return to the sporting field after the year that was 2020.

'Do It In A Dress' Fundraiser

This year University High School’s Athletics’ Day hosted its first ever ‘Teacher in a Dress'!

This was a fundraiser we organised as One Girl Ambassadors. It involved students voting for teachers that they want to see run in the final relay in a fabulous One Girl school dress.

The dress aims to raise awareness of the importance of education and that 130 million girls are denied an education. Moreover, the money from this fundraiser was donated to One Girl to help fight the barriers that are stopping girls from getting their rightful education and give them the opportunity for a brighter future.

During the day, we set up a voting booth and we got help from some lovely students throughout the day with the fundraising. We had a list of 17 teachers who had volunteered to be in the list of nominees to run in the race. The highlight of the day was a group of enthusiastic year 7 students who were extremely determined to raise the most amount for Cyrus Wong to see him run in a dress. Overall the fundraiser was a massive success with a total of $564 raised on the day! You can still head to tinyurl.com/unihighvotes to continue supporting the cause.

We also had the usual BBQ stall run throughout the day, organised by SMAD, also completely run by amazing and passionate student volunteers. That also managed to raise almost 2K which will also be going towards One Girl this year.

Thanks to all the students and teachers for making this possible on the day!
