Learning in the Spotlight: Harmony Day ‘Everybody belongs at St Joseph's'

On Monday 22 March we celebrated Harmony Day.

Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. It was wonderful to see students engaging in lessons and discussions focused on diversity.

Here are some examples of our discussion questions and responses:

Q. What makes us the same?

“ We all belong to someone or somewhere. We all belong to our school and we are all cared for, respected and valued”

Q. What is diversity?

“ Diversity means that we should learn from each other”

Q. What are some of the ways that people can be different from each other?

“ We can look different and have different skills, likes and dislikes and that is what makes each of us unique”.

The official colour for Harmony Week is orange. Traditionally, this colour encourages self-respect and respect of others. As you can see from these photos, students enjoyed wearing a splash of orange ribbon in their own unique way.

May you have a holy and happy Easter and we look forward to seeing you in Term 2.

Stage 2 have participated in two heritage walks as part of our Wee Waa History unit.

During our first walk, we explored the town war memorial and discussed the number of people from our local area who served our country. We then walked to Dangar Park where we tasted saltbush and the importance of the pioneer tree. Finally, we walked to the Imperial Hotel to look at the old photos from Wee Waa which are displayed in the restaurant.

Our second walk to the Echo Museum was an amazing experience for all. We looked at Schwager’s Cottage, the old school from Cutterbri and the multitude of items on display in the museum. We loved seeing all of the things we have been learning about at school, especially the cottage and the old farming equipment.

We would like to thank Luke Noble and Mr and Mrs Warren for allowing us to visit the Imperial Hotel and Echo Museum.

This week in Stage 3, students enjoyed preparing for Easter during Mrs Baird's art classes. We have also been focusing on Holy Week in Religion, and discussed how we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus.
