From the Principal

Kristie Satilmis Acting Principal

It is my privilege to step into the role of Acting Principal this term as Maria Karvouni commences her period of extended leave.  Ross Pritchard will then step in for Term 3.  Dannielle Gibson will be Acting Assistant Principal for both terms, supporting the junior school this term and the senior school in Term 3.  We are confident in the support and expertise of our Leadership Team and the staff as a whole to ensure the excellent work at AHS continues in Maria's absence.  We look forward to welcoming Maria back in Term 4.

Building project update

Building works have continued throughout the holidays, and it was wonderful to see some more visible signs of progress upon our return to school.  The builders have almost completed the extensive preparations required before the new roof surface is poured this week, and lots of new ductwork for our new heating/cooling system has been installed along with the reinstatement of large sections of ceiling grid.  The lecture theatre has been painted and looks fantastic, and the long-awaited furniture for our new classrooms and the pavilion has finally arrived after its protracted adventures on the Tasman Sea.  Things are gradually coming together as we enter into the homestretch of this $5.5M first stage of our capital works project.  Whilst our building team have been fantastic, we look forward to bidding them farewell and switching on our new heating system by the end of term.

Year 7 Camp

Our Year 7 students had a fabulous time on their camp this week at Camp Rumbug in Foster.  It was their first camp in a long time since most Grade 6 students missed out on camp last year due to Covid.  Students took part in a range of adventure and team building activities, and showed a great can-do attitude.  Well done to our Year 7s on their enthusiasm and excellent conduct throughout the camp.  A huge thank you to Dr Phillipson and Ms Cefai for organising the camp, and to all twelve wonderful AHS staff who went along.

Round table event

This week School Captains, Ella and Adele, took part in a round-table event at the offices of John Kennedy MP. They met with student leaders from other secondary schools in the area to hear a presentation from Mr Kennedy who shared the story of his own journey into leadership before the group then discussed the important topic of consent education and gender equality.  Well done, girls, on representing our school at this important student voice event.

Information Evening for Prospective Families

Our annual Information Evening last week was a great success. We were delighted to be able to welcome families into our school, having been unable to do so last year due to Covid restrictions. We have received lots of positive feedback from our visitors, who were impressed by the confidence of our student representatives and dynamic Learning Area displays. I would like to thank our wonderful staff and students for their amazing work in putting this event together.
