Japanese

Year 9

Our language focus this term has been Japanese food, both how to explain the preparation of everyday Japanese dishes and ordering Japanese food at a restaurant.  Students have become competent in using their language skills and have enjoyed performing some hilarious skits with their peers. As a class, we have honed our culinary skills making Japanese dishes such as tuna sushi rolls and barbeque noodles, YAKISOBA.

For our assessment task, each student studied a Japanese recipe in detail creating a cooking video explaining each step of the recipe using language studied in class. Their parents were pleased with their efforts as they enjoyed a night off cooking and were able to try some new Japanese dishes.

Year 12

Year 12 Japanese students have been working hard, completing several assessments this term and practising speaking as much as possible.  With their HSC Oral Exam mid Term 3, they have made the most of several opportunities to speak with different teachers around the state, via Zoom.

Returning to school in Term 2 brought new topics for both Years 10 and 8. Both year groups have been looking at Tokyo as an Olympic venue for 2020/2021, learning vocabulary around places, sports, likes and talents. Year 10 has also been looking at mascots and has designed their own.

All students have been assigned an Olympic country and are participating in various academic and physical Olympic “challenges” each lesson to earn medals. Students are enjoying the competition and have enthusiastically engaged with both the language and cultural activities. This topic will also continue after the holidays.
