Music

Year 7

Year 7 students have engaged in performance, composition and listening activities based on Film Music. Individual and small group performances have included: Raiders March, Star Wars and Hedwig’s Theme. A composition activity involved students becoming composers of a movie scene and creating music using pre-recorded music loops as well as original melodies to convey a function of music for their scene.

Year 8

Rock/Pop music has been a focus for learning during Term 2. Students engaged in performing various Rock music riffs which then became a basis for a composition using Soundtrap. Students formed ensembles and performed arrangements of Viva La Vida, Blinding Lights, Seven Nation Army and Beat It for end of term performances.

Year 9

Year 9 students have enjoyed performing Australian Music repertoire in ensembles which culminated in a class showcase. Performances included songs by AC/DC, Missy Higgins and Men at Work. It was rewarding to see and hear students performing live and engaging collaboratively.

Year 10

Year 10 music class have recently completed their first Performance assessment for the year. All students did a fantastic job in being able to perform a solo for their peers. A number of genres were on display including Rock, Ragtime and Theatre Music.

Year 11

Year 11 students completed a topic on Australian Music which culminated in a Performance and Musicology Assessment. Students are to be commended on their resilience demonstrated during the challenges of Music online learning. The positive and collaborative approach towards all learning reinforces the level of commitment all students have to achieving in Music.

Year 12

Year 12 are busy finalising their Music 1 programs for 2020. All students are presenting both Performances along with Viva-Voces and are currently working towards performing with either an accompanist or backing track. We wish them well as they prepare for their Trial Exam as well as HSC performance in Week 9 next term.
