Striving to find some sort of balance

Life is like riding a bicycle. In order to keep your balance, you must keep moving.  Albert Einstein

We are all striving to find some sort of balance and equilibrium in our lives right now. We are beginning a new semester against a backdrop of rapid change and uncertainty. But at The College, our focus for Semester 2 is about building on the positive, independent student learning from the continuous remote learning program last term and remaining focused on our teaching and learning goals. Staff will focus their attention on using the best available evidence to support change in their teaching practice. We will engage in collaborative dialogue with our peers and adopt effective tools and routines to support student learning. Our team of excellent staff continues to reflect, review and refine their practice. We know that ‘one size does not fit all’ so our approach to each class, to each student, is individual and thoughtful. This is how we keep ‘moving’ and retain our balance. We keep learning together.

Hello my name is Jarran Cook
Hello my name is Jarran Cook

This term I want to introduce some of our staff to the College community.

This series is called “Hello my name is…” I hope you enjoy getting to know our teachers a little better.

Hello, my name is Jarran Cook and I am a Business Management/Geography teacher.

Why did you become a teacher? I became a teacher because I wanted to continue to learn new things and continue to think. I also wanted a day that was never the same.

How has being a teacher helped you to learn more about yourself? Teaching has allowed me to become more organised. It has also taught me valuable skills of patience and understanding of others.

What do you think schools might look like in ten years? I feel schools will continue to evolve, to put the present needs of students first. The schools that are willing to risk change, will be able to adapt to change.

What is one thing you would like all your students to learn? I want my students to love learning and be willing to challenge themselves.
