Foods

Our Food for Design class had the challenge of making a children’s birthday cake. This had to be done over three lessons with all of the theory and research work done, and then we had to make the cake in the practical class over three lessons. The first practical class we had to bake our cakes and then let them cool. We then had to freeze them, so they were ready to ice and decorate in the third lesson. For our second lesson we made the icing and made any decorations we wanted to put on the cake. After we did this, the following lesson we decorated the cakes and then they were ready to present. Along the way there were many challenging times icing the cake, and also many good times. This was a fun task to complete and many of us learnt new skills and had high standards which turned out well. At the start we had to pick a theme we wanted to base the cake around and some of the themes were Beach, Cricket, Dinosaur, Farm, Floral and many more exciting themes. It was a good experience for us all to have, and we enjoyed baking the cake for a children’s birthday party.
