Student Work

Year 3/4

In Year 3/4T we have decided to have a bit of fun during our Google Meets on a Friday. Our first week involved wearing a ‘funky’ hat to the meet. Here is a photo of us all.

Our second Friday we invited our pets to the meeting and we had cats, dogs, guinea pigs, goats(photo of), cows(photo of) and a snake.

This Friday we are bringing our favourite teddy or toy. I’m showing my teddy bear that I was given when I was born.

We are also celebrating Science Week and the children have been given a series of experiments they can do over the week. Here is Molly with her experiment.

Science Week

This week, Foundation students investigated floating and sinking. First, children experimented with different objects to see if they would float or sink.

They then had to tell Mrs. Kondarios what was the best material for floating.

Many children said WOOD, CARDBOARD and PLASTIC!

Next, children learnt WHY things float or sink - we now know it is because of a buoyant force. If the object is heavier than the buoyant force, it will SINK! If the object is lighter than the buoyant force it will FLOAT!

Based on what children had learnt this week about which material is best for floating, they had to design a raft or boat that would float! Here are some videos and photos of our experiments and our rafts.

Thank you to the parents at home for helping with these activities!
