Library News
At the moment whether in the classroom or when preparing online learning, all teachers and support staff are fully committed, as always to encourage and motivate our students to…
Read, Learn, Think, Create, Dream and Achieve
As a result, we have seen some brilliant examples of creativity and achievement by students in our recent newsletters of their writing and artwork. So, to encourage more of the same, this week I am introducing three video story talks and one video on drawing tips by popular children’s authors, Sally Rippin, Matt Stanton and Tristan Bancks.
In a series of three videos, Sally Rippin author of Billy B Brown, Hey Jack and Molly and Buster, speaks about her characters, ideas for writing and answers reader’s questions.

Matt Stanton is an author and cartoonist who is popular for his Funny Kid series and the Books that drive kid’s crazy series. Find out why he writes such funny books first and then watch his funny drawing show.

For our upper primary students, Tristan Bancks is a favourite author for book clubs, so I have included a link to his writing tips video series.

Music and Performing Arts News
Music: Count Us In (MCUI) is Australia’s largest school program which culminates in the National Celebration Day when more than half a million students sing the same song, on the same day, at the same time.
The program song for 2020 is called 'You Won’t Bring Us Down’. Our school community and many others across Australia will gather either virtually or physically to share the joy of music making by performing this song on Thursday, November 5. The Performing Arts: Music remote learning focus for students from Foundation to Year Six will be on the MCUI Program this term. Family participation in these activities is welcome and encouraged. If you haven’t already heard the song, please ask your child to sing it for you or share it with you from their Seesaw activity journal or Google Classroom.
Last week, the Year Five and Six students commenced working on a Choice Task Board pertaining to the Music Count Us In song. Parents, if you are a musician yourself, you may wish to talk to your child and work with them on some of their chosen task board activities.
Yours in harmony.

Here is an idea to do with your children while in remote learning.
Enchanting miniature gardens
Activity
Make a miniature garden on a small scale. Could it be a fantastic fairy hideaway or a Jurassic jungle?
Step by step
- Fill the chosen container with compost or soil and gently pat down.
- Pop in the plants starting with your bigger plants first. Make a hole slightly larger than the pot or plugs that the plant is in already. Place the plant in the hole and firm the compost/soil around the roots. For cuttings, use your finger to make a hole before placing the cutting in and firming the compost/soil around it.
- Sow any seed directly into the compost/soil. Sprinkle a thin layer of compost/soil over the top of the seeds.
- Give everything a good water before you carry on. Use a fine spray to avoid upsetting any seeds or small cuttings.
- Add in any structures e.g. gravel paths, pebble stepping stones, lollypop stick houses, twig fences, bridges or dens. Lids from bottles and jars make great mini ponds or lakes!
- Add the finishing touches such as clay figures, toys or signs to bring the theme to life.
- Place the garden outside in a warm place or on a bright windowsill.
- Keep mini plants and seeds watered so they don't dry out.
