Welcome

Welcome to Term 2

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Term Two!

We had a fabulous Term 1, with lots of great activities including the Easter Bonnet Parade, Interschool Sport, our history unit and many more.

We are looking forward to another busy and exciting term in Year Five.

Warm regards,

Year Five Teachers

Interschool Sport

Well done to all of our Summer Interschool Sports teams who competed admirably throughout the competition. A special mention to the Boys’ Volleyball team, who were the District Champions.

The Winter Interschool Sports Competition will commence on Friday 4th of May. All Year Five students have been allocated a sport. Sports this term are netball, Australian Rules Football, soccer, t-ball, handball, lawn bowls and hockey. Teams will practise on Fridays or Tuesday.

Students in football and hockey must wear a mouth guard for both the practise sessions and actual matches. For students who play soccer, mouth guards are recommended but not compulsory. Mouth guards are available for sale from chemists and sports retailers.

We have also asked children in both hockey and soccer to purchase shin guards. Long socks must also be worn to provide full shin protection.

On Tuesday the 24th of April the House Cross Country competition will be run at school from 9am until 11am. Qualifying students will then go on to compete at the District Cross Country.

Curriculum

Academically, our parallel education focus is on English and Mathematics. We are guided by the Victorian Curriculum in delivering curriculum requirements. Multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages and chance, will be the main areas covered in Maths during Term Two. Whilst in English, spelling, VCOP writing including expositions and debates and CAFÉ reading remain our focus.

Unit of Inquiry

In Term Two we will focus on Biological Science. Our unit is titled “Desert Survivors”. Through this unit, students will explore some of the structural features and adaptations of desert plants and animals and will compare them with plants and animals that live in other environments.

Year 5 Camp to Phillip Island

We are all getting very excited about the upcoming Year Five camp to Phillip Island. It is a fantastic experience which the students will thoroughly enjoy!

Information about the camp will be sent out in the coming weeks. Please keep details and the schedule handy for your own reference. In particular the payment schedule, departure, arrival and pick up times.
