Cricket
A very special day of cricket today, as St Virgil's joined with Launceston Grammar School to be part of Cricket Australia's National Reconciliation Round. The ceremony featured a barefoot circle and Acknowledgment of Country.
'As we gather without our shoes, on the Land of the muwinina people, we do so as an outward sign that we are committing ourselves to Reconciliation both with our Words and with our Deeds. We join today with many other cricketers around Australia, who will today ‘acknowledge historical truths, both positive and negative, so we can celebrate and reflect on success and right the wrongs of past events.’
(Cricket Australia RAP Respect: Action 7).
The ceremony was held under the majestic presence of kunanyi/Mt Wellington with players, coaches, staff and umpires encircling the wallaby blanket representing the Nine nations of our island home of lutruwita trowunna Tasmania.
All paricipants committed to use cricket and their life beyond the field to every day walk the ongoing journey of reconciliation based upon Truth and Healing.
In a high scoring game played in tremendous spirit, LGS were too powerful for SVC winning 10/312 to 10/195 in a high scoring game at the picturesque Shoobride Park.

U14 Men’s/Women’s Double Scull: Llewellyn Gray, Luca McCreadie
Rowing State Club Championships
The College was recently represented by Anthony Volta at the State Club Championships. Anthony finished 2nd in the U17 Men’s Single Scull in a close race for first. Anthony is one of our up-and-coming rowers and has a bright future ahead of him.
It was mixed emotions for the regatta, as Noah Haas the leading U17 sculler in the State was held out of the event being in quarantine. Noah has been the fastest U17 sculler all season and was the clear favourite to win the U17 Men’s Single Scull and with Anthony the U17 Men’s Double Scull. The boys still have one more year in the U17 age category and will be hoping for some better luck next season.
The entire rowing squad will compete next at School Regatta 3 at Lake Barrington on March 5&6.
