Sister City Relationship Celebrate 45th Anniversary

On February 21, 1977 the City of Hobart and the City of Yaizu signed a sister city relationship agreement.  For 45 years, the residents of both cities have increased cultural awareness, had educational partnerships and developments, increased business, tourism and trade between the cities and surrounds and shared valuable resources and approaches in a variety of industries. The friendship has emerged from the hospitality displayed by our city for Japanese fisherman half a century ago has developed into a platform for the sharing of cultures, ideas and knowledge. It's led to three decades of international student exchanges and produced the stunning Japanese Garden at the Royal Tasmania Botanical Gardens.

You can find out more about Hobart's Sister Cities relationship with Yaizu at hobartcity.com.au/yaizu

Yaizu, in Shizuoka Prefecture, is a port city with its shores on the Pacific Ocean. It is known as for deep sea fishing and processing marine products. It is about 2.5 hours south-west from Tokyo by train.  It has a similar population and climate to Hobart. From Yaizu, you are able to see Mt Fujii on a clear day!
