Foundation (Prep)

Hello and welcome to Prep C!

Numeracy

In Maths this week, the children have demonstrated their understanding of how to form their numbers correctly. Students also had a go at writing their numbers as far as they could go in 15 minutes. Both of these tasks have shown their progress made so far and highlight areas for improvement. They also assist with developing personal learning goals for the second half of the term.

I have also introduced ordinal number. We can use ordinal numbers to define their position. The numbers 1st(First), 2nd(Second), 3rd(Third), 4th(Fourth) and 5th(Fifth) were used to identify the position of a starfish in a set of objects.

Handwriting

Students have been learning the following letters: c, a, d, o, g, s, f, and q

 i, l, b and t.  n, m, r, h, p and k. This week we introduced e, u, v, w, j and y.

It is hard to believe that we have already reached mid term. I have commenced an assessment based on 15 of the letters we have discussed in class. The purpose for this assessment is to see how much information the children are retaining. I work with each student one to one and take record of which letter names and sounds they can recall.

I will work towards completing these assessments by the end of next week. If you would like to check in with your child's progress, please do not hesitate to come and see me.

Reader's Workshop

One of our book responses this week was to Grumpy Bear. Students were asked to think about the story and attempt drawing and writing about part of the story. We also talked about speech bubbles and some of the things Grumpy Bear said. The children painted a picture of Grumpy Bear and recalled something the Bear said in the book.

We have enjoyed sharing our Show and Tell this week. The children were very excited to see a special visitor in my teacher chair!

I hope you all enjoy a break over the long weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone next week.
