L' angolo italiano

The Italian corner

The students at A.C.P.S. have made a fantastic start in Italian. I have been so impressed with their enthusiasm and inquiring minds.

Preps have started the year by becoming familiar with the original story of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Within this theme they have been introduced to names for body parts, colours and numbers.

Grades 1 and 2 have started learning the names of animals, after which they categorised them into various groups such as domestic or wild. They are progressing on to using verbs to describe the animals in simple sentences. We have had many laughs whilst playing animal charades in Italian.

In Grades 3 and 4 we have been feeling hungry during the new unit of study on food. The students learned how to express their likes and dislikes, as well as simple verbs to describe how they feel about certain foods. They have just started to design their own restaurant menus using cook books as resources.

In Grades 5 and 6, the students have started a unit of study on fashion. After learning basic words for articles of clothing, they have moved on to learn verbs to write simple sentences about clothes, such as The dress is yellow and spotty. The students designed uniforms for the winter Olympians and labelled the clothes in Italian.
