Curriculum Days for 2022

Each year government schools are provided with four student-free days for professional development, school planning and administration, curriculum development and student assessment purposes. Our TLI Program is thriving! A message from Terpsi Miliaresis

Hi my name is Terpsi, I am teaching at Anderson’s Creek Primary School as the TLI (Tutor Learning Initiative) teacher. The purpose of the TLI program is to make sure that all students are at the level that they would have been working at, in a normal school year had remote learning not occurred.

Earlier this term, families were contacted, as students had qualified to participate in the TLI.  After collaborating with classroom teachers and assessing students, the TLI lessons commenced a few  weeks ago. It is recommended, that for optimal learning to take place, small groups of students should attend 3 times per week, each session lasting 40-45 minutes. The TLI has been implemented to ensure the support is received in a way that minimises disruptions to other learning or school activities.

The students participating in the program are academically at different levels.

In turn, the TLI program will help to accelerate students to the academic level they would have been if 2020/2021 had been regular school years. Students and teachers are enthusiastic and welcome the extra support provided by the government.

This morning I attended a Principal network meeting where we had a wonderful guest speaker who spoke about 'HOPE' in reconnecting staff, students and school communities following a tough few years. We explored factors thought to empower 'hope' as well as wellbeing capabilities for learning.

After exploring my own hopes for this year, I wanted to find out what our students' hopes are. Please enjoy the following 'hopes' from students at each level across the school...

Preps

Otto - I hope to learn how to spell bigger words and read big chapter books.

Isabelle - I hope to learn how to read books from the Library. I'm hoping to learn how to be a doctor.

1O

Alex - To get better at reading because I get stuck on hard words. You can't always sound words out. It doesn't always work.

Zach - I hope to get better at Maths and enjoy reading.

1D

Lila - I'm hoping to have a good year and go swimming and to do some more crafts.

Rose - I want to go swimming and do more crafts like Lila.

2SB

Scarlett - To make new friends and get better at things like Maths and a little bit of reading and writing.

Ashton - My hopes are to get better at reading and writing and for people to clean up after themselves.

3/4Z

Melody - I hope that we don't go into anymore school lockdowns and have to go back to home learning. I hope I have a good school year and learn lots of new things.

Jackson - I hope Covid goes away and to learn lots of new things - more maths, writing and harder spelling.

3/4F

Samson - The hope I have is for better toilets and a bigger veggie patch.

Darcie - I hope that all the computers work all of the time and that the passwords always work.

3/4M

Lolli - I'm hoping to get through this year and to make new friends at school.

Ali - I hope everyone is kind this year and stops throwing rubbish on the ground.

5/6B

Cass - I hope that we have a more positive and happy year compared to last year with lockdowns.

Robert - I hope that everyone is kind to each other and gets along well in the yard.

5/6E

Taylor - I hope that we don't go back into lockdown because I like seeing my friends at school.

Jay - I'm hoping we can have assembly in the theatre soon because I like it better.

5/6J

Marlon - I hope that by the end of the year we don't have to wear masks anymore. I hope that we might get nets behind the footy goals so the ball doesn't go over the fence.

Cooper - I hope assemblies go back into the theatre and we have a normal year at school with no home learning.

What are your hopes for this year?

Wishing you all a safe and happy long weekend...
