Recently, ten primary students attended a six-school cricket competition against schools from Illawarra, Southern Highlands and Southern Sydney.
Although most of our players had never played team cricket before, training sessions prior to the day and boundless enthusiasm meant that we came very close to winning two out of our three matches.
The ten players attending were Samuel L, Toby G, Swapan L, Boyd M, Greyson LB, Joseph T, Thomas HS, Will P, Xavier S and Michael M.
Samuel L was consistently our top scorer, hitting fours at will and ensuring we posted competitive totals. Toby G removed a number of batters with his pacey and accurate bowling. Other wicket-taking bowlers included Swapan, Xavier and Thomas. Incredibly, Thomas also took three catches, including a full-length diving effort! Toby, Michael and Will also managed to runout opposition batters with direct hits to the stumps. Joseph clubbed a number of fours while Greyson impressed with his first-time wicket-keeping skills.
All team members displayed excellent team spirit and sporting attitude. Although it was a hot day, they kept focused throughout the day. Well done team!

On Thursday 24 February, I attended the Synergy Leadership conference with some of the High School leaders at Calderwood Christian School. From NCS, the prefects included myself, Izzy C, Eden R and the Captains Alec D and Beth W. Unfortunately, Ollie E could not join with the rest of the prefects. Synergy is a Leadership Conference which seeks to equip student leaders. Through formal and casual seminars and discussions, we were presented with skills, insights and practices to glorify God through service of our school and wider community. This event occurs twice a year.
As my second year being a prefect, I was honoured to draw from my past year’s experience to contribute in leadership discussions. To open the conference for the schools, principal Mr Hutton and his staff from CCS kindly presented a fantastic brekkie of burritos and muffins. Student leaders and principals came from Cedars Christian College, Southern Highlands Christian School, Illawarra Christian School, Nowra Christian School and Calderwood Christian School. The students from all the schools mingled with each other during brekkie and engaged in conversation. We then split off into mixed school groups for principal seminars on specialised leadership topics. These included: Inspiring others, Dealing with Conflict, Conviction to Lead and Leading Innovation and Change. Personally, I found the Inspiring others session extraordinarily helpful because it reminded me that inspiring leaders must not operate in isolation. This means that by combining the best qualities of the leadership team, we can inspire the people we serve by setting an efficient and effective example of service.
After the principals' seminars concluded, Mrs Meek led the student leaders discussion session. Each school’s student leaders collated their insights and skills. We organised this into a unified application document, to outline what our main points were and how they connect to bring glory to God through service. The details of manifesting these ideas into our practices and activities is currently being worked out in our weekly meetings.
Following this, students from each school gave presentations about what student leadership will look like in 2022. Our presentation included: our school’s mission statement, our three values, areas of student leadership, our goals, passages that inspire us, legacy and prayer points. From this, every school was given great insight and inspiration as to how each group of students will lead in service this year. To conclude the Synergy Leadership conferences formal events, each school closed in prayer for another school.
After the event was finished, we gathered for a group photograph and socialised. The NCS crew were thrilled to see Mrs Meek once again, after she had left our school the week before. We took a sneaky little tour with Mrs Meek to her new office and 'hung out' with her. Following the event, the student leaders set up an inter-school group chat to pray for and spur each other on. Talking with Mrs Meek about her new job and the students about their leadership beyond school, resonated an important truth. I believe that leadership extends far beyond institutions and organisations, because leadership is a characteristic not just a position. The characteristic of humble service is one of the most important qualities that I wish to uphold through service of NCS and beyond in 2022.
On Monday 21February, the best of our primary swimmers attended the Zone Swimming Carnival where they raced along the black line with what was nothing short of an amazing effort.
The following students competed for NCS in races aged 8-12 years: Jake B, Jada B, Luka C, Jenevieve D, Madeline D, Benjamin G, Noah G, Toby G, Tom H-S, Penny J, Shakaya N, Levi O, Amelia P, William P, Amity P, Indigo P, Sienna S, Xavier S, Simeon T, James T, James V and Alex W. Away on the day were: Bethany D, Elijah J, Hannah J, Lachlan H-Z, Boyd M, Grace P, Isabel R, Mitchell P and Noah S.
The day yielded lovely weather with a number of our families coming to watch and support the competitors. The students who were present stepped up to the challenge of filling in for those away. One student even made it through to State for a race that they were filling in for! Well done Jada B! All the best at State in the 12-13 Years Girls 50m Backstroke.
Joining Jada at the State level competition will be Will P for the Boys 10 Years 50m Freestyle and Breaststroke, Tom H-S for the Boys 12-13 Years 100m and 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke, and Luka C for the Girls 10 Years 50m Breaststroke. It was a brilliant day in the pool and on the sidelines topped off with some fantastic results for Nowra.
On 22/2/22, 18 Secondary students competed at the CSSA South Coast Zone Swimming Carnival at Nowra Pool. Sadly, a number of students in our Zone missed the event due to Covid/isolating.
The swimmers from Years 7-11 had a great day and swam their hearts out. The competition was tough with many tired faces afterwards, as the cheerleading was heard around the pool.
Our Junior Girls relay team placed 1st in the 4x50m Medley relay and the Intermediate Girls Relay Team placed 1st in both the 4x50m Freestyle & 4x50m Medley relays. A special congratulations to Millie S of Year 7 who was crowned 13 Year Girls Age Champion at the Carnival.
Many of our students have progressed and will go on to represent NCS and the South Coast Zone at CSSA State Swimming at Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush later this term. We wish you all the best at this next level of competition.

Late last year, two of NCS's most talented horse riders competed for us at the annual 'Inter Schools Cup' in Berry. Both Mrs. Longfield and Mr. Parker attended and were amazed by both girls' excellent riding and jumping, especially in the 'pressure cooker' of competitive events.
Indigo explained that 'hacking' is when you have to show the judges how good your horse looks and how well you can ride.
'The rescue relay was when two people had to ride together fast and if something went wrong they'd have to help the other person.
'Sally (my friend from interschools) and I did it and it was the most memorable moment because at the last jump Patience (Indigo's horse) knocked it down, out of like 80 jumps for the three days that she did, she knocked down the last one on the last day!', Indigo said.
We are all so proud of both girls' participation in this incredible sporting event. You are both brave, talented and diligent in following your passion in this area. Well done!
