AGRICULTURE

We have just delivered the new point of lay chickens to their new (temporary) home in the Ag. plot at the College.  We have 10 chooks, 2 are currently laying and the others will start very soon.

There are plans afoot to construct a larger chicken facility to house approximately 50 chickens with the view to sell the eggs.

SSV SWIMMING SPORTS

On Monday the 7th of March we had a team of 44 swimmers represent the College at the Korumburra Outdoor Pool. It wasn’t the most glamorous day for a swim however each member apart of the team took it in their stride and got their bathers in readiness for a day filled with racing, fun and making memories.

Our team was so supportive of each other it was amazing to see, each student walked up and down pool deck to cheer each other on and ensured there was someone at the end to congratulate their team mate on their efforts. The participation and support from students didn’t go unnoticed by the staff at MMCRC.

Overall, our team took it out, winning both male and female aggregate along with the overall aggregate, the trophies came back home and it was all thanks to the amazing team and for their efforts in giving every race they could enter a go.

Massive shout out Jayda Winn (Year 9) for her Age Group Championship Title for 2022.

I would also like to thank Mr. Lumsden, Ms. Newton, Ms. Wylie, Mr Dal Pozzo and Miss Poli for all their efforts in ensuring the day went smoothly and pushing each student to the best of their ability.

YEAR 12 HISTORY

249 years ago, an act of defence by the American Colonists towards the British Government would change the relationship between two countries forever. This act would be a turning point of the ongoing disagreement between Britain and the American Colonists, consequently putting them on a path to war. This event was the Boston Tea Party which occurred on the night of the 16th of December 1773. A group of patriots formed by Samuel Adams dressed as native Americans and dumped the tea on merchant ships into the sea to protest the taxation of the American colonies, people often used the phrase ‘No taxation, without representation’ to describe the view of the colonists. As we were learning about this event in our Year 12 History class, our teacher Mr Cox organized a tea party of our class while we watched part of a film about the events leading up to the Boston Tea Party.  Mr Cox the Year 12 History teacher explains “we do a lot of reading and writing in History, so it’s nice to mix it up with a few fun activities once a month.”

Overall, it was a great way to immerse students in such a momentous event of the United States history.

SSV SENIOR GIRLS CRICKET

On Tuesday the 8th of March the Senior Girls Cricket team headed over to Traralgon to play Bairnsdale in the second round of SSV Cricket. The day was very overcast and with a couple of drops of rain we even wondered whether we would get to play or not, but luckily with the rain holding off we got going. The game started off with the MMCRC girls bowling first, we managed to pick up a few wickets here and there, and tried our best to get out their very handy opening batter but just couldn’t manage to!! Overall Bairnsdale made 117, quite a high score but we knew it would be achievable. Our batting started off quite slow with a few quick singles here and there but we knew a couple of boundaries would be very handy, after a couple of fallen wickets Gabby Perry came in and hit a 4 off her first ball, we all knew she was on. Gabby went on to make 36 runs which was an awesome achievement. After 20 overs of batting we ended up making 86 runs which was an awesome effort but obviously not enough to score the win. All girls participated to their full potential and we are so proud of them for giving it their best shot.

Thanks to Miss. Dowling and Mr. Duckmanton for coaching and umpiring it wouldn't have been possible without you both and also to Mr. Damon for driving us over and back!!
