Show and Tell

The Prep children have all thoroughly enjoyed bringing in a special item from home to share with their class as part of Show and Tell. Show and Tell is a valuable introduction to public speaking, equally important is the listening component, where the Preps are encouraged to listen carefully and ask appropriate questions.

So far, the Preps have been asked to bring in something from home. We find that by speaking about something familiar, children feel more confident when speaking in front of the class.

Next Term, we will be asking the Preps to bring in items related to our Unit of Inquiry.

New Sandpit Toys

The Prep students have absolutely loved playing with our brand new sandpit toys in the playground over the last two weeks.  These toys were purchased using some of the money raised by our students during the Awesome August Fundraiser last year.

We would like to say a big thank you to Mrs. Patane for organising the new buckets, spades and digger trucks for the Preps!

Thank you also to Charlie C (Prep C) for being an amazing helper, taking out the equipment each day and ensuring that it is packed up and returned to the classroom at the end of play time.

The Cyber Safety Project

The Preps all had so much fun and learnt a lot about cyber safety when they were visited by Trent and Sam from The Cyber Safety Project earlier this term and it was wonderful to be able to reinforce their important message in the classroom.

Trent and Sam discussed different people who can be unsafe online, like tricky people, strangers and unkind people. The Preps were asked to think about how they might know when they are not safe online and they were asked to think about their feelings.

When we feel happy, excited and relaxed, these good feelings indicate that we are safe. However, feeling sad, worried, nervous and scared are heavy feelings and let us know we may be unsafe.

The Preps all helped Trent and Sam identify unsafe situations and they learnt to STOP when they feel unsafe online. STOP stands for:

S - silent

T - tell an adult

O - out (get out)

P - play something else

The Preps identified some adults they could talk to, such as their mum, dad and their teachers. The Preps understand that there are many wonderful activities to do online such as play games, watch videos and search for information, but they also need to know when to STOP so that they can stay safe online.
