Return of our Therapy Dogs

We are very excited to have two new therapy dogs joining our team.

Wally is a Miniature Groodle  who will be completing his training in Benalla in April.

Frankie is a Toy Cavoodle.    We do hope that Frankie will be fully trained and hopefully onsite by end of Term 2.

Wellbeing is at the forefront of education now more than ever. The recovery phase of the pandemic has unearthed a deeper need for more emotional support and a focus on the social aspects of learning.

Our Wellbeing Team have been working closely with all staff in developing a Behaviour Modification Plan for our students.  This plan focuses on the positive relationship building of our students and the reconnection of both social and emotional  skills development. The ability to recognise how one's actions can impact others allows students to take ownership for their actions and repair social relationships.

District Swimming Event

Congratulations to Xavier W and Charlie C who competed in the District Swimming on Monday, 21 March.

Xavier achieved two firsts in the 50m Backstroke and  Breaststroke event and will progress to the Regional Swim Event next week.

Charlie came third in the 50m Freestyle.

Well done to both boys.

School Maintenance

Over the long weekend we had several maintenance and OH&S tasks completed.

Each of our air purifiers filters were cleaned.  This task is on ongoing requirement and is completed over the weekend to minimise the disruption to our school day.

Tarlis and Austin also repaired several areas of the edging of our grass mounds, they repaired seating which was destroyed by a falling tree, replaced slip mats at the base of classroom steps and built shelving for additional literacy resources.

I would like to sincerely thank Kerryn and Lee for supervising these tasks over the weekend.

Environmental Excursion

We are excited to introduce a new program for our Year 6 Sustainability leaders this year. As part of their leadership role, they are Marine Ambassadors for the ‘I Sea, I Care’ program, run by The Dolphin Research Institution.

This is an award winning marine education programme which enables students to learn the value of the marine environment with workshops each term on how to teach their peers and the wider community about it.

On Wednesday 16 March, our students were extremely fortunate to experience the ‘dip of a lifetime’ with a trip aboard ‘The Moonraker’ charter. This provided the opportunity to get up close and snorkel with some of the unique marine life that lives in the Mornington Peninsula coastline.

At Chinaman’s Hat, they swam and frolicked with Australian Fur Seals whilst giant Sting Rays glided below them. They were extremely lucky to see the rare Weedy Sea Dragon amongst the sea grasses near the beach.

It was a special experience for our leaders to face a new challenge and make connections with their own ‘ocean backyard’ and real world environmental issues.

We look forward to seeing what their next adventure brings! You can read more from the leaders themselves on the Sustainability Captains Report page. There is also a great video that Hugh W took with his go pro.
