School Council Sub-committees

Strategic Planning and Development

The sub-committee is developing a Strategic Plan for 2019-2021. The plan aims to build on our strategic location in Albert Park and focusses on taking a partnership approach to delivering on six key objectives:

1.    Develop (more) great play spaces for children

2.    Engage with our surrounds (Albert Park)

3.    Enrich learning by engaging with our local community

4.    Develop a strong relationship with Grand Prix

5.    Activate the School as an interface with the community

6.    Promote a culture of partnerships and leadership

We are actively building relationships with Council, Parks Victoria, Grand Prix and South Melbourne Market. We have also already created new opportunities to 'enrich learning' and 'discover new passions' through partnerships with Black Dragon Taekwondo and South Melbourne Dance Centre, in addition to existing activities such as Kidko.

Sub-committee members are Rosemary Cosentino, Mark Vassarotti, Tania Quick, Danny Pinchas, Naomi Hobson and Jen Sharpe.

Environment and Facilities

The Environment and Facilities sub-committee is responsible for the planning, and coordinating the design, use, maintenance and management of the facilities and environment.  The sub-committee also looks at appropriate emergency and OH&S functions and controls.

Members of the committee are Erin Collins, Kjeil Pedersen, Tim Davies, Mark Vassarotti and Rosemary Cosentino.

Some of the work that the Environment & Facilities sub-committee is responsible for includes: identifying building defects, contacting Parks Victoria regarding the installation of a pedestrian crossing on Albert Road Drive South and designing the layout of the kitchen classroom.

The school employs maintenance personnel, which helps to minimise the need for parents to attend working bees. We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that we would appreciate the voluntary contribution of $50.

As we are a brand new school, this subcommittee works closely with Strategic Planning and Development. Please feel free to contact any of the Environment and Facilities sub-committee members.

Finance

The School Council is responsible for overseeing the school’s financial performance. It is a legal and Department requirement that councils make sure that monies coming into schools are properly expended and authorised.

South Melbourne Park Primary Primary School has  a finance sub-committee which handles many of Council’s routine financial responsibilities, including the development of the annual budget.

The School Council helps to develop the annual budget and is responsible for ensuring that schools have a functioning and effective system of internal controls. The sub-committee presents the annual budget to the School Council for discussion and approval.

The School Council/sub-committee monitors the school's financial performance against the budget in conjunction with the principal.

Kjetil Pedersen performs the role of Treasurer, supported on the Finance Committee by Christine Priddle, Rosemary Cosentino and Matt Vines. The Finance Committee meets prior to School Council meetings.

Thank you to the many families who have contributed to our Building and Library Funds. To date, we have received $5700 in the Library Fund which is used for the purchase of library books, resources and materials. $5525 has been donated to our School Building Fund. These funds can be used on buildings, fixtures and fittings.

Donations to both funds are tax deductible and donations can be made all year round via the Qkr app or by EFT at the Office.

Engagement and Wellbeing

The Engagement and Wellbeing sub-committee has been developing its priorities and direction of work for the next few years. The two key areas of focus are building community and student wellbeing.

To this end, the sub-committee has focussed on exploring a number of areas to further support student wellbeing, including the Friendship Tree, Clubs such as the Curious Minds Club, the 100 Acts of Kindness project, the Zones of Regulation for students, the Healthy Tracks to School Program and Mindfulness in the classroom.

In order to further encourage community engagement we are going to be running two Parent Information Sessions per term, the first of which will be on Tuesday 30th July from 7pm to 8pm at the school and will be focused on the Zones of Regulation. We would love to see as many people as possible attend.

If you have any ideas you would like to share with the sub-committee please contact Matthew Vines, Nicole Le Pou, Stephanie Le Moigne, Anna Barden or Freya Owen.

We are keen to hear from our community and we value everyone’s input.
