An Update from Mr Vines

Welcome back from the holidays! I hope you all managed to spend some quality time together and had a chance to rest up, ready for a brand new term of exciting learning!

New Teacher for Prep D

Welcome Hasnaa Hamid, our new teacher for Prep D! There will be a chance for parents to meet her at 3pm this Friday in the staff room. If you would like the opportunity to say hello, come and have a coffee and a chat.

We Want to Hear From You!

Your opinion matters. Here at South Melbourne Park Primary we care about how you feel about being a part of our community. We want everyone to feel that they are being heard and that they can have a meaningful say in how the school functions. It is important to us that you find our communication clear and effective. To this end we ask that you take two minutes to give us any feedback on how we are going with our communication so far. Please click here to go to the very short survey. We really value your feedback.

Zones of Regulation Parent Information Session

As a school we are embracing the research-based approach to self-regulation called ‘The Zones of Regulation’.  It is a curriculum geared toward helping students gain skills in consciously regulating their actions, which in turn leads to increased control and problem solving abilities. Using a cognitive behavior approach, the curriculum’s learning activities are designed to help students recognise when they are in different states, called “zones”, with four zones each represented by a different colour. In the activities, students also learn how to use strategies or tools to stay in a zone or to move from one to another. Students explore calming techniques, cognitive strategies, and sensory supports so they will have a toolkit of methods to use to move between zones.

We have a parent information session on the Zones of Regulation on Tuesday 30th July from 7pm to 8pm at the school. We encourage anyone who is interested to attend to learn more about the Zones of Regulation and how we will be using it at the school. It will be a valuable opportunity to learn more about how you can use the zones at home with your children as well.

Friendship Tree

You will have noticed that our friendship tree has a brand new covering for this term. Thank you to Anna Barden once again for her amazing work, and for spending a large portion of her Sunday in the freezing cold to put it up. We really appreciate all your work and the kids absolutely love it!

As always, if your child feels like they do not have anyone to play with please encourage them to go to the tree. Our teachers and students have been amazing at connecting children with playmates.

Open Door Policy

As you all know we have a strong open door policy that we are committed to, and we encourage you to contact your class teacher and book a time to meet if you have anything you would like to discuss. Our teachers are more than happy to answer any emails and to arrange times to meet with you. If you have something important to discuss with them please make sure you take the opportunity to secure some time with them so that they can give you the time you deserve. They may not reply straight away as they are incredibly busy planning the learning for our students, but as soon as they are able to do so they will be in touch. In the mornings and afternoons, immediately before and after school, our teachers are mostly occupied with engaging with their students, and while they are able to have a quick chat they will need to go back to their students. If you have anything urgent to discuss please contact the office.
