Let's get digital...

Our fabulous College Prefects have shared some useful strategies to help their fellow students successfully adapt to the learning from home environment.

The girls have joined forces - from a distance - to create an engaging and informative video, which can be viewed online via this link: https://vimeo.com/412152315

Some of their excellent advice for staying productive includes maintaining a regular daily routine, minimising distractions in the environment and incorporating exercise into your extended lunch break, as well as pointers about online etiquette and communicating remotely.

The following tips are also useful to keep on hand - save them to your desktop background or print them out and stick them on your wall for easy viewing.

Tasmanian Science Talent Search

The 2020 Tasmanian Science Talent Search (TSTS) is up and running for Term 2 and beyond!

This year's theme is 'Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans'.

To give learners and their families access to opportunities for science investigations and scientific literacy, the TSTS is available to families supporting learning at home or blended learning.

The competition is open to all students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Entry is free, with projects to be submitted online in two categories, Themed - which relates to the annual Science Week topic (including a new 'Picture Story Books' section), and Open - which allows students to choose any topic of interest (including a new 'Natural Sciences Project').

Students get street smart

Year 7 students, Tina Purves and Grace Marshall made the most out of their lunch break this week, stepping outdoors to create a 'footpath activity course' for the enjoyment of the younger children in their neighbourhood.

It's lovely to see our school values in action beyond the College gates. What a wonderful idea, girls, well done!

Be your own masterpiece

With all of us spending a lot more time indoors than usual, why not use the time to get our creative juices flowing? You never know, it might just be the start of a brilliant masterpiece...

At St Mary's College, we are challenging students and staff members to recreate a work of art using objects and/or people from around your home.

Step 1: Choose your favourite artwork (PG-rated please)

Step 2: Find three things lying around your house

Step 3: Recreate the artwork using those items

Step 4: Email your image to sjadams@smc.tas.edu.au to feature in our virtual exhibition, coming soon (watch this space).

We can't wait to see what you create! Here's some inspiration to help you get started.
