Tournament of Minds

On Sunday the eighth of September, eight teams of excited Girton students travelled to La Trobe University Bundoora to compete in the Victorian State Finals of Tournament Of Minds.

This was a fantastic day of problem solving, teamwork and many creative solutions.  All students were placed in a room for three hours where they worked on the solution to a  problem in their respective teams. Students all worked collaboratively on solving their problems, then performing their solution in the form of a ten minute skit to a panel of judges. These solutions incorporated, song, comedy, and lots of ad-libbing.

All teams also completed in a spontaneous challenge, where a question was posed, and they had four minutes to create a detailed and thorough solution to the problem.

Our Girton teams did extremely well on the day of the final, and were lucky enough to gain first place in one of the of the eight categories, as well as receiving honours in two other divisions. The Senior Arts team will now travel to Hobart in October to compete at the International Finals. They will compete against students from the states of Australia, as well as teams from New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand. This is an incredible achievement and we wish them all the best at the International Final.

A very special Thank you to Mrs Bath, Mr Parry, Ms Milner, Mr Ruddick, Mrs Maruff, Alexi Ginis, Ella Fletcher and Zoe Hilson, and the friends and family that came to support the teams on the day. The tournament wouldn't have been possible without all your enthusiasm and support.
