Principal's Report

Dear Parents & Guardians,

As we head into the holidays we can say again that it has been a term of major disruptions to normal school life.  However, we have still had many positives to draw on.

  • We managed to sneak in our 3/4 camp between lockdowns, which ended up being a total success.
  • Our NAPLAN results were outstanding and demonstrates how well our processes have been during remote learning.
  • The schools new building has been signed off, costed and construction will begin in April next year.
  • Our staff have again improved the role out of remote learning.
  • The community treasure hunt and book find were a wonderful success for the whole community.
  • The school again won the Yarra Valley interschool speaking competition, (see below).

INTERSCHOOL SPEAKING COMPETION

Our school has had a fantastic finish to the term due to our students Layla and Tia. Both Layla and Tia were outstanding through the online competition, competing against finalists from Healesville P.S. Badger Creek P.S. and Yarra Glen P.S.

They both spoke with passion and conviction. They also had all the elements that make up a good speech, timing, different tones, different volumes of voice, eye contact and the most important thing engaging content that they are passionate about.

After the judging finished, Layla came 2nd overall and Tia came 3rd overall. Tia won a trophy and $50 and Layla won a trophy and $75. Because our school scored the highest overall we were again declared the winner and the holder of the perpetual shield. This is the 8th straight year we have won the award which is an amazing feat for any school! I would like to thank our teachers at all levels that do such a great job of teaching the skill of public speaking to our kids. Public speaking is something that every single person will use at least once in their life.

The winners receive a badge that has a different colour to represent how many times a student has won an award. Students will also be acknowledge with their photo and a blurb on why they have won the award in the office area for the following term.

LAST DAY OF TERM

Just a reminder that we finish at 2:30pm on the last day of term.

We don’t yet know what will be in the government’s road map back to school, but like all of you and all the staff at WYPS we are really hoping that we have everyone back in the classroom as soon as possible.

I hope you all have a safe and happy break! Thank you again for all the support you constantly give us. Our community has done a brilliant job of taking on remote learning, which will make a difference to our students in the years ahead.

Please make sure you look after yourself in the next weeks and thank you again for all your support!
