Year 1 and 2 News
Mr Jevon Scandrett (Year 1/2 AHOS)
Year 1 and Year 2 students are amazing authors!
Year 1 students have been learning to write procedural texts. During one exciting lesson students worked with a set of instructions to build and decorate their own paper kites. Students worked together to create the kites before writing their own procedural texts with the title ‘How to Build a Paper Kite’.
In Year 2, students are continuing to build their knowledge and skills in writing narrative texts. Students have been working on creating sizzling starts to their narratives as well as building tension and excitement before an exciting conclusion.
Take a look at some of the fun in Year 1 below!

Year 5 and 6 News
Mr Nigel Keegan (Year 5/ 6 AHOS)
Our Year 5 and Year 6 students continue to transition incredibly well between onsite and Home Learning. Well done to all students for their resilience and level of engagement, regardless of environment.
In English, our Year 5 students are busy working on their informative texts and reading comprehension activities and skills. 'Australian Immigration' is our Integrated Studies topic with students researching a family member or well-known immigrant about their ‘Migration Story’. The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program is proving to be a real highlight, providing the opportunity for students to use various cooking equipment and ingredients and learn about good hygiene and safety in the kitchen. The recently produced spring rolls and fruit salad cones were a winner! Practical measurement activities in Maths have been a lot of fun and a chance for some hands-on learning with length, perimeter, area, volume, and capacity.
In Year 6, students are busy learning about Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy during Integrated Studies, and informative texts and reading comprehension skills in English. During Maths lessons students have developed mathematical knowledge and understanding in a variety of topics such as angles, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
We are now well into Term 3 units of study across the various subject areas and recent student assessment demonstrates the progress students continue to make in their learning. Check out some excellent examples of student learning below! We are grateful for the ongoing support from parents and families, and it was great catching up with many of you at recent Parent Teacher Interviews.
Swimming Program Information
Miss Felicity Donohue (Deputy Head of Primary)
Due to the current lockdown and the uncertainty of public swimming pools being open in the near future, the College has made the decision to cancel our swimming program this year. We are unable to re-schedule due to a lack of availability. We know this is not ideal and would have loved to take the students out.
We thank you for your support and understanding as we adapt in these ever-changing times.
Micro-habits to Parent Better Every Day
By Michael Grose ‘Positive Parenting’
Following are five micro-habits that will impact positively your relationship with your child. You are encouraged to create your own micro-habits, but this list will get you started.
- Greet your child with a smile every day
- Point your feet toward your child when they have something important to tell you
- When your child is upset, acknowledge their feelings first
- Refer to good and bad behaviour as a choice
- Look away and breathe when you want to yell
Behaviours become habits become patterns. You practise a behaviour once and it’s just that – a behaviour. Practise it repeatedly and it becomes a habit, which can easily be broken. Keep the habit up for long enough and it becomes a pattern that becomes an entrenched part of the way that you parent.’
