Parent-Student-Teacher-Conferences

Thank you to all our families for participating in our Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences this term.  It was fantastic to connect in an online space and celebrate your child’s achievements.  There were 2309 bookings made for 616 students!  If you didn’t get a chance to speak with your child’s teacher, please make contact via email if there is anything you would like to discuss.  A special thank you to parents who joined us from other timezones.

Curriculum Day

At the start of Week 6, AHS teachers participated in an online Curriculum Day.  Our learning was focused on the key priorities in our School Strategic Plan.  We started the day in Professional Learning Communities, looking at samples of student work and identifying strategies to improve differentiation in the classroom.  We then selected workshops that were focused on implementing our ALQ Collaboration Tasks, Tracking Student Work Habits and sharing exam preparation strategies to support our VCE students.  Despite the rollercoaster that is 2021, our staff have sustained their focus on improving student outcomes.  The day was high energy and full of stimulated learning and sharing.  Thank you to all staff for your contributions.

Staying Connected

As we face an extension to this lockdown for the remainder of term three, the sense of fatigue and lowering levels of motivation are apparent.  This is a challenging year for our senior students.  The next few weeks will be a heavy assessment period.  I encourage them to be clear on the dates of their assessments using the 10-12 Assessment Calendar, and ensure they have a study schedule to balance their revision.

Our key priorities that we know contribute to student success are active attendance, feeling engaged and prioritising wellbeing.  Over the last two weeks we have had an absolute blast in our Virtual House Athletics Day and regular year level assemblies which are an opportunity to connect with peers and teachers, play some games and have some fun.  We know that the happier and more connected students feel at school, the more they are able to engage and thrive in their learning.  With this in mind, please encourage your child to participate in the opportunities that are being provided to support their learning.  In particular, Ms Price and Ms Wong open a Virtual VCE Study Centre through study periods and after school each day.  Students can login and work in study groups with their peers.  This is open to all Year 10 to 12 students and the links can be found on year level team pages.
