Poetry Anthology
We have studied several kinds of poetry this term, the students have learned how to write several kinds: Diamante; Narrative and Senses poems. As these poems have been unpacked, the students have written their own. They will choose their favourites to add to their own anthology. Most recently, we learned about 'Kennings'.
These poems are like riddles. The writer does not say what they are writing about but hopes to provide the reader with enough clues to help them guess correctly.
Kennings have an ancient history, with their roots in Anglo-Saxon. Modern examples of Kennings words such as: skyscraper; ankle-biter; and mind-reader.
They use nouns -nouns or nouns-verbs to describe their subject.
Here are some examples of Kennings that were written this week:
