Principal's Report

Expectations During Remote Learning

We are well into a current period of lockdown and the pressure on everybody in our community means that we all have different capacities on different days. Currently, our learning program is a hybrid of 'live' learning for Reading, Writing and Maths and learning tasks that are provided on Compass for other learning areas. All learning tasks are uploaded onto Compass so that if your child is not able to attend a Webex session they are still able to access the learning.

I have spoken to a number of families in the past week around expectations during Remote Learning. Our preference would be that all students would be able to attend the three 'live' sessions each day, and complete all learning tasks, being submitted via Compass. However, each day in your household will look different and therefore your family's capacity to engage with all of these Webex sessions each day. It would be great for your child to attend at least one session each day and this allows them to say hello to their teacher and peers.

Specialist Days on Wednesday also provides your family to have a different structure to your week on a Wednesday. Our Specialist teachers run 10 minute Webex sessions on Wednesdays to keep in touch with students and talk through their learning tasks.

Please ensure that you are prioritising your families wellbeing at this time. There will be days, hours, minutes where putting school work to one side for a time will be the best decision you can make for your family.

We truly hope that the news next week is favourable for students to return to school, however, we must follow the health advice and I will provide updates across the week as they are announced.

2022 enrolments

We are planning in earnest for 2022. Knowing our student numbers is a vital part of this work. Schools are currently experiencing lower than usual Foundation enrolments for 2022, and this has an impact on our ability to make strategic decisions around our programs and structures for next year.

If you have a younger sibling who will be attending Marlborough next year, I would ask that we have your enrolment form by early next week. Failing that, as we know that families are very busy and dealing with many things if you can please email me: neil.butler@education.vic.gov.au to let me know you have a child who will be enrolling for next year. Families who have enrolled their child for 2022 should have already received a confirmation letter.

Similarly, if you are aware of friends, kinder families, neighbours etc. who are planning on enrolling, please encourage them to do so by next week as this assists with our planning.
