From the Learning Specialists

Terri Gioia & Cindy Norman

It feels like we have climbed a mountain this term! Each step of the way we’ve reached further into our reserves of persistence, resilience and positive mindset to help us get to the summit!

With the holidays bringing a well-needed break from screen time, we thought we would remind you all of a great way to stay connected, one which involves the traditional tools of learning…pencils and paper.

Writing each day is a great way to stay connected. We can write to stay connected to our friends and family; there is nothing quite like receiving a hand written letter or card in the mail from someone you love. We can also write more personally, to stay connected with our own thinking. It is a simple way to bring clarity to our own ideas. It can be used as a powerful self-reflection tool, helping you focus on what is going well.

Here are a few ideas to keep you writing these holidays. Give it a try, you may even notice that writing brings you a little peace and joy each day too!

  • Think of your happiest experiences. Try to imagine yourself in that moment. Now write about the experience in as much detail as possible trying to include the feelings, thoughts and emotions that were present at the time.

  • At the end of each day jot down a reflection of the three things that went well for you on this day. Journaling each day is a great way to feel gratitude and remind yourself of the small wonders that you are surrounded by.

  • Send someone a handwritten ‘thankyou’ note or card. This kindness act not only brings others joy but will also put a smile on your face too. A great Chinese Proverb reminds us to ‘use your smile to change the world; don’t let the world change your smile.’

  • Find a beautiful image to write about, sometimes stopping to notice the beauty and detail in the smaller things brings greater appreciation for the world around us. We have included some great images below to get you started!

Enjoy the spring break and don't forget to find some time to write!

Kind regards,
