Principal's Report

This week I returned from a few weeks long service leave and a trip to the US and Canada, back in time for the last week of term. Fortunately, we have an experienced and capable Principal and Leadership Team who managed the school outstandingly well in my absence. A big thank you in particular to Shane Kruger who was Acting Principal in my absence and Dina Mingos who stepped up into the role of Acting Assistant Principal to cover for Shane. These temporary leadership and staff changes are common and more are scheduled in the second half of the year, with Catherine Ford completing a Principal Internship at Glen Waverley Secondary College in the first four weeks of term 3. Carrie Wallis our current Head of English and Literacy will step into the role as Acting Assistant Principal for Later Years during this time.  The following staff will be taking long service of varying lengths at the start of term 3, Carolyn Parkes, Benn Pollock, Azar Rahmatzadah, Joanna Karanikolopolous, Jacki Baldri and Jane Walker. As a result we have a number of new staff replacing them during this time and I will introduce them in the first newsletter of next term.

Whilst I was away, as noted in the previous newsletter, we had two new staff join us in Peter Cameron (Business Manager) and Chris Young (Facilities Manager). I am excited to have them start and look forward to working with both of them in the future.

As you may be aware our two major projects the COLA and D Block toilet projects are nearing completion. The D Block toilet project has taken us longer than anticipated to complete but I have no doubt that the final product will be well worth the wait. It is anticipated that this project will be finished very close to the start of next term. The COLA has gone up very quickly and as a result we are beginning to appreciate how important it will be for our staff and students. This immense structure is also likely to be completed close to the start of next term.

Finally, I would like to thank all students and staff for their hard work this term, encourage everyone to enjoy the break and look forward to the exciting things happening next semester.
