World Challenge 2020 Springvale Excursion

The 2020 World Challenge team went on our first team excursion to  Springvale on the 7th February  after school. Our mission was to find a restaurant that could seat and feed 22 people in a time frame of 30 minutes. We went to Springvale as it has a large Asian community, and as a result many Asian restaurants and cuisines. It was a good simulation for what it would be like finding food in Cambodia and Laos. We split into groups to find a suitable restaurant for all of us to dine at. One that could accommodate certain dietary requirements including vegetarian & vegans as well as gluten free meals. We met back together after the time was up in front of one of the Springvale Shopping Centre entrances to discuss where to visit. We settled on one eventually. For dinner we had a variety of meals on plates in the middle of our tables that we could pick and choose our food from. First we had spring rolls. The mains were fried rice, fried chicken and beef served with salads. The dietary requirements were met as the vegetarians/vegans had tofu instead of beef or chicken.  For desert we had watermelon. The restaurant was family owned and the owners were so hospitable and kind it was unbelievable! When we finished eating we went outside for a photo with the owners. The excursion to Springvale was our first team outing. It was a great opportunity to begin to get to know all the other members of the team, and to start working together!

Barnum- The Musical

Tickets are now available for Dromana College’s production of ‘Barnum’! Featuring the biggest musical cast the college has ever seen, we welcome you to the Greatest Show on Earth!

The world of Phineas Taylor Barnum is full of spectacle and humbug. Sometimes with her support, and sometimes against her objections, P.T. Barnum works with his wife Chairy to create unbelievable attractions in a variety of ways, from the American Museum in New York City to a national tour featuring Jenny Lind, the Swedish Nightingale. Along the way, Barnum meets Joice Heth (the oldest woman alive) and Tom Thumb (the smallest man in the world). He dabbles in politics and begins a lecture tour, culminating in his founding of the Greatest Show on Earth with partner James Bailey.

Showcasing the best of Dromana College’s performing and visual arts students, Barnum is an exciting and joyful ride of humbug and laughter suitable for all ages.

Dromana College Pathways Information

VET (Vocation Education Training) courses started in the second week with students undertaking their chosen VET course headed to other schools, Chisholm (Frankston or Rosebud) or here at the college, attending the three VET certificate courses we run: Hospitality / Sport and Recreation / Small Business.

Students who undertake VET subjects are working towards completing a Certificate II or III in their chosen industry subject. There are many VET subjects students can choose from including: Traditional type trades, ie: Building, Plumbing, and Electrical as well as a Salon Assistant, Beauty, Media, IT, Equine, Music etc.

VET courses are designed to give the student an industry recognised Certificate, in an industry based environment. VET subjects are unlike normal classroom subjects in that if a student misses a VET class it is not revisited by the trainer. This could potentially mean the student will not receive the full Certificate at the end of the (generally) two years it takes to complete the VET. Instead the student will receive ‘a statement of attainment’.

Attendances are monitored every week and if the student is not in attendance, left early or arrived late  without a notice from parent/guardian, they will incur an unapproved absence and year level coordinator informed for follow up.

If a student will be absent for a VET class, the parent must contact the absence line: 59 84 7177
