TED- H
The second half of 2022 has been an exciting time for Year 7 students and the TED-H (HSIE) team. We started our investigations into history with a glimpse into the ancient past when the Tutankhamun Roadshow visited the college in Week 1. Students were able to handle and view actual ancient artefacts as well as replicas, create their own artefacts, and get a taste of archaeology. We think a passion for Ancient History has been sparked in quite a few students! We look forward to students learning more about Ancient Rome and China throughout the rest of the semester.
TED-E
In TED-E (English), our poetry unit ended with an amazing experience. We were blown away by the calibre of Year 7’s performance poetry during our second annual Mater Dei Poetry Slam. Students independently planned and created their slam poetry in groups and then performed for their peers. Have a look at some of our courageous and talented students in the images we have shared. Congratulations to the winners, Stephanie Shaw, Scarlett Lee and Josephine McIntyre.
We moved on to our new unit on context and how our own and the author’s experiences shape our understanding and the meaning we take from texts. In this unit we read the autobiography ‘Lion: A long Way Home’ by Saroo Brierley, and students are enjoying being immersed in a different world. The unit launched with a fun activity where students used filters on images they took of each other to represent the idea that our personal experiences are like filters on the way we view texts. Please enjoy some images of our students showcasing this activity.
TED-RE
TED-RE have recently completed the unit of work - The Life and Times of Jesus. Students investigated what life was like in the time of Jesus, the context in which Jesus ministered and how he included marginalised people. Through inquiry techniques, students explored the ways in which Jesus is the model for Christian life and the relevance of his message and teachings in the world today. Students researched organisations who assist marginalised Australians, as part of their assessment task. We have now moved on to their new unit of study - Belief Practice and Prayer where students will be learning about different forms and expressions of Christian prayer to help them to create their own prayer experiences later in the term.
