Principal's message

Dear Parents/Carers,

What a great week we've had so far. There is so much happening around the school with lots of celebrations, camps and excursions.

ACTING ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Congratulations to Danielle Toone who will be the Acting Assistant Principal for the remainder of the school year. As many of you are aware Danielle has previously acted in this role. We wish Danielle all the best.

In line with the Department of Education and Training (DET) guidelines this role will be advertised externally in Term 4, 2022 for a permanent appointment.

PREP ENROLMENTS 2023

If you have a child commencing Prep in 2023 please enrol them at your earliest convenience.

We have the exciting Jamo Juniors program starting in late August where the children attend school to sample the ‘Sounds Write’ literacy program, Top Ten mathematics, Talk for Writing and other fun activities.

It is a fantastic program to assist the smooth transition to school and our dedicated Prep teachers are very keen to meet the new children coming through.

Please note that if you know of any prospective parents looking to enrol students for next year please inform them of our Jamo Juniors program and that we would love to see them. Tours of the school are still available.

COTTAGE BY THE SEA

We have 18 very excited students, Bebe Ryan and Angela Nutting spending this past week in Queenscliffe at ‘Cottage by The Sea.’ I had the pleasure of spending some time with them on Wednesday.

Cottage by the Sea is a not for profit – non-government funded entity who provide wonderful experiences for many children across Victoria. They have been supporting children for over 130 years.

The children are very fortunate to participate in challenges, team building and experiential learning activities. We are incredibly grateful that Cottage by the Sea offered us placements this year.

COVID/ILLNESS

The Covid/Flu season is still very active in our school and wider community. With this I have a few friendly reminders.

When notified of a positive case within the school, if your child is not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, they can continue to attend school but you should monitor for symptoms.

Students who show symptoms of COVID-19 shouldn't attend school, test immediately and isolate until they receive a negative result.

It is recommended that parents monitor students for symptoms and use a rapid antigen test (RAT) when symptomatic.

If your child returns a positive RAT result:

* You must advise the school

* Your child must stay home for 7 days, and then only leave home once they feel well

Household contacts

Students who are household contacts of a COVID-19 case are not required to quarantine. It is required that that household contacts undertake daily rapid antigen testing five times within the 7 days of exposure.

Students 8yo and above who are household contacts are required to wear face masks when indoors at school. This does not apply to students who have a valid exemption.

If your child returns a positive RAT result during this period, they must stay home for 7 days.

Masks

Thank-you for assisting us with the provision of masks for your children aged 8yo+ to be worn indoors. The Department are providing masks for students however you can also provide one from home.

Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support during this time.

ASSEMBLY

We have had to be very cautious with large indoor gatherings this term as a pre-caution. if the weather co-operates we are hoping to hold an outdoor assembly this Friday for students.

We celebrated the Commonwealth Games at school on Wednesday and the theme of the assembly should it go ahead, is based around unification of countries and athletes from across the world- fully abled and para-athletes.

JANE McMEEL

Congratulations to Jane McMeel on being awarded the League Best and Fairest in the WVFFL. Jane is a fantastic role model for all students but particularly girls at our school.

A NEW ARRIVAL

Trent and Bridget Hill are the proud parents of their third child, Ned James Hill. All are doing very well.

CONDOLENCES

The Warrnambool Primary School Community was very sad to hear the news of the tragic passing of one of our ex-students over the weekend Adrian Phipps.

Our deepest sympathies go to Jane, Doug and Neil at this very sad time.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!
