News From Around The School
Hospitality Students Impress
Our hospitality students have been whipping up a vast array of delicious and attractive looking dishes that are not only skilfully prepared, but also thoughtfully presented.
Included in the skills that students need to learn is service, and our staff are always only too happy to be the 'customer' that samples the dishes and provides feedback. Also included in the hospitality curriculum are barista skills and coffee service. TAFE teacher, Honor Joyce has been teaching students the customer service skills, latte art and milk steaming, food safety and hygiene, coffee bean grinding, espresso machine and tamping along with developing a knowledge of coffee brews and roasts.
Please Consider Becoming a RAISE Mentor in 2023
In 2023, we are hoping to be able to once again make the 1:1 RAISE mentoring program
available to students. To do this, we need volunteers from our community to assist. It's a wonderfully rewarding program that runs for approximately 20 weeks for just two hours a week. Full training is provided, which can be done online or face-to-face.
If you can assist or would like to learn more, please contact our front office on 0267954477 or speak with local coordinator, Jess Barraket on 0409924604 or email jessica.barraket@raise.org.au

We Are What We Eat
Our MC students have been learning to cook healthy and delicious meals that are perfect for winter as part of their life skills development. Healthy eating and knowing how to prepare and cook healthy food is such an important life skill and it is a class activity that students always look forward to. MC class teaching assistant, Ms Gavan taught students how to make delicious shepherds pies that were a big hit.
Another activity our MC class have been enjoying is regular visits to our Ag farm where they have the opportunity to handle and learn about different animals.
BBQ Breakfast Is A Hit With Students & Staff
Each month we join with the primary school to enjoy an early BBQ breakfast. The smell of delicious bacon and egg rolls sees staff and students from both school come together to enjoy the early morning sun and conversation. It's a great way to connect before the another busy day begins.
Thank you to the staff who come in early to prepare and cook so that breakfast is ready as everyone arrives at school.
Learning Podcast Production Skills
The Narrabri Shire Council is currently facilitating training for young people aged between 15-24 years as part of the NSW Government’s Youth Opportunities Program. Youth Council members, Caitlyn Coutts-Smith and Mackenzie Jones were among the first young people from across the shire to register.
This exciting opportunity sees participants develop a podcast project that is produced by young people with young people in mind. The project has a mental health focus and participants are supported and mentored through the different training stages that include; mental health first aid training, podcast training, production and branding and marketing.
