Principal's Message

Principal’s Message

it seems like only a matter of a week or two since we released our last newsletter, an indication of how busy life at Wee Waa High School continues to be.

I would firstly like to acknowledge the terrific achievement of our lawn bowls team who recently placed seventh in NSW from 16 teams in the CHS lawn bowls knockout competition. We are extremely proud of Brock and Kyne Allen and Hunter Doring for not only playing so well, but for the sportsmanship they continue to show that reflects so well not only on them, but our school and the community too.

In addition, we have six talented young athletes preparing to compete in the NSW CHS state athletics finals. I wish Jordan Lonnen, Emily Hartnett, Samantha Marchant, Megan Crutcher, Bella Suckling and Matilda Currey all the very best for the 8th and 9th September in Sydney.

In 2023, we are hoping to be able to once again make the 1:1 RAISE mentoring program available to students. To do this, we need volunteers from our community to assist. It's a rewarding program that runs for approximately 20 weeks for just two hours a week. Full training is provided, which can be done online or face-to-face. Please contact the school or see our ‘News From Around The School’ section further in this newsletter for more information.

It is wonderful to see students once again able to go on excursions and have the important life and learning experiences that such opportunities bring. Currently we have students from Years 9 and 10 on excursion on the Gold Coast and Ag students competing in the NSW School Merino Wether Challenge in Dubbo where they have achieved second place in two events and third in another.

Our year 12 Wood Technology have completed their major works and are now waiting for the markers to visit. I commend the students for the excellent major works they have created and Sara Trevaskis for all the long hours she dedicated to the students.

Our NAIDOC Week celebrations were terrific, and I acknowledge the hard work and planning of our Aboriginal Education Officer, Helen Wenner along with Naomi Nean and Pat Nolan who together delivered a week of outstanding Aboriginal culture and language activities. I would also like to thank Patty Lettice and her Aboriginal dance group for travelling from Narrabri to be with us for our opening ceremony. Their dance demonstration was greatly enjoyed by staff and students alike.

This weekend is the Wee Waa Show and I am pleased to see so many of our students participating. Thank you to our teachers who have worked hard to get students ready for this big event. I look forward to seeing you there.

Lastly, I would like to again thank our terrific staff who go above and beyond to bring the best education opportunity to our students.

Yours sincerely

Jacqueline Neil
