Aoife's Message

Hello Holy Cross families,

The last two weeks has seen a whirlwind of activity in and around our school. From moving sheep to building prototype rafts, our children have been engaged in opportunities for design, collaboration and modification of plans and ideas. We're also looking forward to welcoming our Dads and father figures to a Father's Day breakfast on Friday 2nd September. See below for further details.

Holy Cross Workshop

You may have seen some photos on Facebook and Instagram of our shed. It's currently in the process of being divided into two sections, one side for storage and the other for our very own Holy Cross workshop. This will be a space where the children can design and create using tools and materials. A huge thank you to Andrew and Melissa Augustus and Colleen Moffat who have been giving their time and expertise to help us get this project off the ground. We can't wait to have another learning space for our children, they deserve to have as many opportunities as possible to develop a variety of skillsets. We are very grateful to our maintenance committee and parent community for helping us to make this happen.

Junior Chef competition at Sacred Heart

Best wishes to our Year Four representatives who will be taking part in the second round of the junior chef event at Sacred Heart. Gabriella, Harley,  Rose and Ivy have been practising making pasta from scratch, along with a tomato sauce. The smell in the corridor has been absolutely divine so the judges are definitely in for a treat.

Pie-drive!

Thank you to our PFA for organising a pie fundraiser. We appreciate everyone's support. The fruits of your labour are on display on the playground in the form of updated line markings. See the PFA section of this newsletter for further details on how the funds raised by our community benefit our children.

Potholes/Water

Please be cautious as you drive through, being particularly mindful of the safety of pedestrians. We are hoping that we will have a fix to the relevant sections of the driveway by Term 4, along with an upgrade to the path around the side of the school building.

We are continuing to experience plenty of wet weather at the moment. You might like to consider sending a spare pair of shorts/tracksuit pants and socks to school with your child in case they get damp/muddy.

Father's Day event

We warmly welcome our Dads, Granddads and special men in our lives to join us for breakfast on Friday 2nd September. The bbq will be fired up from 7:30 am - 8:30 am, come along and have a breaky roll and a coffee. You are welcome to drop by for 5 minutes to grab a bite to eat or to stay and have a chat. We will have a short prayer gathering to acknowledge our wonderful dads at 8:50am, followed by a Book Week costume parade. Lots happening that day - we can't wait!

Mathematics learning for staff

Last week we gathered as a whole staff to engage in professional development in the area of mathematics. We were led through the day by Hannah Marino. Hannah shared the latest research in terms of building children's confidence in problem solving, whilst also stretching and challenging their thinking. The model is based on an Inquiry approach to mathematics learning in which children develop skills and concepts through problem solving. This approach fosters student agency and strengthens dispositional learning such as resilience, flexibility and adaptability. At the end of this term we will have a further focus on professional development in mathematics to enhance our skill set in this area.

SRC

We recently elected a new group of children to our School Representative Council. We will present this group of leaders with their badges at our next assembly.

Have a relaxing weekend!
