Heights Campus - Physical Education Program

FLC

FLC started the term with AFL – and recognising NAIDOC week.  AFL football is thought to have started from an indigenous game called Marngrook meaning “game ball”. Tyler Cabansag (an AFL development officer) came to play with us and expand the FLC student’s football skills.  And we had fun! Don’t forget Auskick is a great activity for all children and it is located at many centres close-by.

In Term 3 we are currently focusing on our soccer dribbling skills and control of the ball.  Go Matildas! We also know how to “Huff and Puff” in our fitness sessions.

JLC

In JLC “Fitness Fanatics” sessions we can do :

Star Jumps, Skip, Crawl Under, Hi-5, Overarm Throw

MLC

Fitness challenges have been set for the MLC students and don’t be surprised to see some of your children going through their routines at home.   Students have been asked to record their routines and submit them via google classroom. Students can also invite family members to join in the fun.  Women’s World Cup Soccer has also acted as an incentive with soccer skills and game development being a focus early in the term.

SLC

Developing an awareness of muscle groups and strengthening our core has been the focus of the fitness routine during Term 3. Students in the SLC will be encouraged to repeat attempts at various exercises at school and home during their week.

Bob Mann from BMBA has also been out to the school offering basketball clinics to the SLC students.  They have been engaged and challenged by Bob’s skill development activities. Bob runs training sessions out of Wellington Secondary College on Tuesday afternoons after School.  More information to come.

George from Heights Campus accepted the challenge. Momo did too!!

All of the students performed the tasks to a high level.  Well done SLC.

Students have also been participating in skill and game development activities for Softball, Hot Shots and Volleystars in readiness for the Summer Inter School Sport season.

SLC Inter School Sport Winter

It’s A WRAP!!  Winter Inter-School Sport came to an end in the first couple of Weeks of Term 3.

All students in the SLC have been given opportunities to develop their sport education by playing and competing in team sports.

AFL, Netball, Soccer and Sofcrosse.

AFL Football Teams competing for the ball. Springvale Campus Vs Heights Campus.

Springvale Rise Primary School also had six teams competing in the District Finals in recent weeks. An excellent result with all six of the teams achieving PREMIERS AND RUNNERS UP in their chosen sports. Fantastic Effort! Some teams went on to represent the District at the Greater Dandenong Division event.  This is a great moment to compete against other schools in the Dandenong area. Congratulations to all teams and coaches for their outstanding efforts during this Winter Season. Summer Inter School Sports Matches commence Aug 11th and students will be participating in team sports such as:

Basketball, Hot Shots (Tennis); Softball and Volleystars.

SLC Swimming

Our SLC students from both Heights Campus and Springvale Campus will be attending the School's Swimming and Water Safety Program. Thank you to all students and families for your support of this important program.

Venue:  Noble Park Aquatic Centre

Dates: Aug 7 to Aug 17th.

Days: Monday to Thursday only.

The intention of the program is for students to develop water: confidence, safety knowledge and skills to allow them to build endurance and techniques.

By Grade 6, if the students have attended all programs like the one the school provides it will have given them the opportunities to build the skills to advance towards achieving the Victorian Water Safety Certificate.

The Victorian School Curriculum anticipates students are able to demonstrate the skills required by the time they leave Year 6. Achieving the VWSC provides children with:

  • Vital water safety skills that could help save their life or the lives of others
  • Essential preparation for secondary school camps, excursions and activities
  • Important skills to enjoy a range of aquatic activities and sports
  • Confidence to safely approach a variety of aquatic environments and activities

Students need to achieve the following skills

  • Water Safety Knowledge
    • Answer questions relating to safety rules for a range of aquatic environments.
  • Swim
    • Swim continuously for 50 metres.
  • Under Water
    • Surface dive, swim underwater and search to recover an object from deep water.
  • Lifesaving
    • Respond to an emergency by demonstrating DRSAB and the recovery position.
  • Rescue Skills
    • Rescue a person using non-swimming rescue techniques:
    • Reach rescue using a non-rigid aid.
    • Throw rescue using a weighted rope.
    • Throw rescue using a buoyant object and unweighted rope.
  • Survival Sequence
    • Perform a survival sequence wearing light clothing:
    • Enter the water safely.
    • Scull, float and tread water for 2 minutes; signalling for help intermittently.
    • Swim survival strokes slowly for 3 minutes.
    • Exit the water safely..
