Snapshots from Springvale
We have had a couple of special events in the past fortnight. JLC students on both campuses have visited the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens. This was a fun day out with teachers and friends, but it also provided an authentic opportunity for students to learn about what living things need to survive. They explored a wide variety of plants at the gardens and were introduced to the role plants play in our ecosystem. I hear that the view was pretty cool and the rocks were super fun to climb on.
And guess who are 100 days smarter? Our FLC students! They have celebrated this milestone with a special day last week which marked their 100th day of being a primary school student. The classroom was transformed into a party zone. Fairy bread, cup-cakes and fruit were on the menu and parents, students and teachers all enjoyed lots of fun activities and challenges together.
2023 National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results were also recently released. This nationwide annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 is used to determine whether young Australians are developing the needed literacy and numeracy skills. As a school we are extremely proud of our year 3 and year 5 students’ achievement. The results show that they are progressing very well. The teachers have taken time to analyse the students’ results and are using this information to support their planning for future teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy.
And yesterday we also welcomed our Assistant Principal, Ms Jamar, back from her leave. The students were very excited to see her and to hear about her adventures while she was away.
So, this will be my last newsletter article as an Acting Assistant Principal. It has been an honour to be able to help our school in this important role while Ms Jamar was away and I am grateful for the professional learning opportunity this experience has provided me.
