Highlights on Heights

This month families of our Year 3 and Year 5 students will have received the NAPLAN results for their children. This is an annual test that all students across Australia in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit. These results are used to assess the achievements of our students and the performance of their school. This year we are very pleased with the results of our students, they have shown incredible growth and continue to make us proud! The efforts of our students, as well as the work of our teachers and education support staff are all contributing to fabulous growth in all areas of learning.

On Wednesday, after school, the teachers came together to examine the NAPLAN results in more detail. Investigating where our students excelled and where we can implement strategies to improve their performance even further. It was a great opportunity to celebrate our success as a school. Our Year 5 results in Numeracy, Reading and Writing were particularly good this year. Our results were higher than both similar schools and our network schools. An excellent result! (**The yelllow figure is our school, the black figure is similar schools, and the light blue figure is network schools.)

This shows that the work we are doing is contributing to growth for our students. Teachers also identified that while the children have done very well there is still more work to do!  We committed to using the NAPLAN test questions as a provocation for scaffolding the learning of additional skills the students needed to know so they could answer the question correctly. Teaching teams will continue this work and we are looking forward to continuing this learning journey with our students and their families.

In other news, our Foundation students celebrated 100 days of school this week! They have reached their first milestone in their own learning journey. Well done Foundation students!
